Samsung D6000 won't play some .mp4 files

First off I love Serviio and it has completely solved my problems trying to play .mkv files on my new Samsung D6000.

I used Freemake Video Converter to convert many .mkv files to .mp4 because .mkv's would not play for me through Samsung's Media Player. Now these converted .mp4 files will not play through Serviio, however they do play on Samsung's Media Player through AllShare. This is only a minor inconvenience to me, but I am curious if there is a solution to get everything playing through Serviio so I can avoid source switching and whatnot.

Here are the details of an .mp4 video file that won't play through Serviio, but plays just fine through the Samsung Media Player.

If you need me to post more information, I would be happy to do so. I have only been using Serviio for 2 hours, so it's highly possible that I have made a stupid error.

Re: Samsung D6000 won't play some .mp4 files

On the TV, I get the error message "Not Supported File Format" when selecting the video to be played.

Other .mp4 videos I have tested play fine, including .mp4 files that I converted from .mkv using Handbrake. However, all the videos I converted to .mp4 using Freemake video Converter do not play through Serviio.

Could you post MediaInfo result of these two files, one from Handbrake(works), and one from Freemake (not works) ?
We will compare encoding settings used.

Re: Samsung D6000 won't play some .mp4 files

I had in issue where some MP4 files would not play on my Samsung Series 6000 TV, spent ages on it, looking at format differences between ones that worked and ones that did not. The ones that worked were all encoded with Nero Recode and the ones that did not, were Handbrake, but in terms of AVC profiles etc... they were very similar. The MP4's were hosted on a WD MyBook Live and served using DLNA.

The solution was something I did not expect. I moved to a NetGear ReadyNAS and suddenly all the MP4s would play perfectly. They even had the capability of pausing (which was not working before). The WD unit has been happily serving content to my Panasonic BluRay player (which would play all the content) and indeed WD TV Live units. It was just the Samsung TV that had issues.

NOTE: My NetGear ReadyNAS syncs with the content on the WD - so the files are the same. Must be something weird with the Samsung-WD combination.
