Samsung Smart TV D Series seeing Serviio, but no files

I just got a Samsung Smart TV (D7000 series), and my research has lead me to conclude that Serviio is the best option to get the gigz of video/music/pics from my iMac to my All Share Smart TV.

I installed Serviio, opened it with the console, and added a folder with a few pics(jpg) & vids(avi) to test it out.

Serviio appears on my Samsung Smart TV All-share program, but the files are not showing up.

Any ideas where I might be going wrong here?

I'll keep Serviio open, maybe it's just taking a really long time to load the content?

Re: Samsung Smart TV D Series seeing Serviio, but no files

depending on how many files you have shared with serviio, it could take a while to show up. This has been improved in the new 0.6 beta that is in testing now. Can you post your seviio.log file and we will look it over and see if there is anything indication of something not set up correctly.

it can take up to 24 hours to build the library for the first time, Although i have heard of it taking 48 hours on very slow systems but that is rare.

I would have thought on the recent (0.5 and higher) versions it should be able to browse library as it's being indexed. If not it's a serious bug.

Re: Samsung Smart TV D Series seeing Serviio, but no files

hi all... thanks for the replies.

it actually ended up trinkling in... i think i was just over-zealous and impatient. :D

i do have some questions which have probably been asked though;

Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of files?
I see 30 pages of 10 videos (about 300 out of the 1000's I have serviio point to) on my TV... and the 300 files picked seem completely random.

Not sure if this is a setting, serviio limitation, or a Samsung limitation.

thanks again for the replies.

Re: Samsung Smart TV D Series seeing Serviio, but no files

only 1000? what a shame.... I guess i'll need to keep my video collection in check; i've already started trimming some of the lower quality cams & crappy one-timers.

i do experience one other problem, which is sometimes serviio sometimes says "loading" and even cuts out completely for a few seconds. (during a movie, this can be frustrating).

any pages on this site you can suggest i visit which give tips for best reception between my imac & samsung smart tv?

i'm also wondering if maybe i need to invest in a newer linksys router?
if so, any suggestions of best quality?

Thanks again!

Re: Samsung Smart TV D Series seeing Serviio, but no files

As a network engineer my networking devices are hugely important to me so i would recommend the 2 devices below, you get what you pay for.

Virgin internet Compatible. ( RJ45 Connection )

http://www.netgear.co.uk/home/products/ ... R4000.aspx <-- best router i have ever used :) HINT HINT

BT internet Compatible. ( ADSL/RJ11 Connection )

http://www.netgear.co.uk/home/products/ ... D3700.aspx <-- million times better than the home hub.

i do test my devices hard and have managed to drop the routers here but that was when running 2 streams and torrents at same time, but that is more like i killed the network card in the pc than the router though, anyways my point is be careful not to push the pc running serviio to hard or u will suffer drop out even with best equiptment.

Re: Samsung Smart TV D Series seeing Serviio, but no files

^what's the difference between Virgin & BT?

i was just looking at my Linksys/Cisco Wireless-G Model: WRT54G2 V1outer, i bought it about years ago... definitely time for an upgrade.

i don't mind spending bank to get a quality product, so your suggestions are well

I use a mac, not a PC, to run serviio so i'm not overly worried about pushing to far, but i do want to be cautious.
any tips on getting best results?

1. Difference is the connection on the router as stated in brackets :) so depending on your ISP you would need one or other of them.

2. OS has nothing to do with it, its how good the network card is. ( wireless N or gb wired )

Re: Samsung Smart TV D Series seeing Serviio, but no files

I have comcast, cable as my ISP. based on what i have now, technically use their POS modem too, but i have no idea what RJ45 or RJ11 mean.
I do pay them an additional $10/mo. for their modem, so if it's a wise investment for me to upgrade that, i'd very much like to do so.

As for my network card, which would be my current seems like it's wireless-g, so i'm assuming a type "n" is a step up, so i'll go searching for one of those.

Re: Samsung Smart TV D Series seeing Serviio, but no files

modem and router are two different things so even with a new router you still have to connect you modem as well.

sadly im in the uk and not the USA so i cant for certain say what connection the comcast modem uses but i would suspect its an RJ45 ( network ) connection.
