Unknown content on seviio network...ie Porn

Hi, First time user, not sure if i have the terms correct, so ill give you all the last bit of details that i can...bear with me.

I have a sony kdl w 5810 and ex403. A dell laptop, with the serviio download and an external desktop hard drive. I have two issues.
The one i dont mind is: i find serviio or my tvs are very tempermantal, sometimes i can see the icons for the movies othertimes the folders read"there are no items to disply".

The one problem i cant seem understand is. There are various icons relating to contact that i dont know where its come from.
From this there are a few clips of porn. the content on my hard drives (fims music etc) has been put on there by a freind/collegue etc. So my first thought was its been copied over from them. Also i thought maybe its from phones that i have had in the past and some content has bounced from my cell phone to my laptop.

So i dissconnected my external hd. still the content(i considered on the one porn clip for now) is showing on both tvs its Mpeg format. It plays on the 403 but not on the 5810.
I also tried searching the film name on my laptop, nothing.

i have unchecked the hidden files box on serviioo, nothing.

Now the wife thinks the clips are something that i have used...maybe i said. But if it was me then id KNow where and how to gat rid surely.

the other things clips of windows pages/shows/ for about 30secs long.

theres a teenage lad next door, could serviio be picking somthing up from next doors wireless?

can i find out where this content is located and delete.

ANy help/pointers would be great. thanks
vj

This particular clips file name begins with A. The first thing my kids see in TITLES under A is this picture of this pasty ass as soon i try to put a movie on LOL.

Re: Unknown content on seviio network...ie Porn

ahh... problems with wife, I feel for you :-)

Anyway, is the file really porn or is it just named like one? Try to find the video in the Folders category, then you'd know where it is on your harddrive. Also note that removed files will disappear from Serviio within 1 hour, not immediatelly. And if it's on the remote drive they might not at all (if you unchecked the option for the shared folder in the console).

You could also search the log, it includes a list of added files, which would include the file path.

LOL!

Zip you are too nice.

Vj1 it is your porn. Don't blame your neighbour.

To my knowledge Serviio only finds media were you tell it to look. Search the directories on your computer that you told Serviio to look to find your media. Search your hard drives using *.filetype (avi, divx, xvid, mp4, etc.) for all the various video media on your computer.

I think you would be wise to remove this thread as it is ridiculous and only good fo a laugh.

Acutally it could if your share directory includes a link to another pc and permissions are active. That's why it's safer to serve off another PC than the one Serviio is installed on as such permissions would not propagate.

Re: Unknown content on seviio network...ie Porn

I know this post is old. But I was just surprised by the exact same problem. Being a 100% sure that I DON'T have any porn on my macbook.

So after scratching my head where these files are coming from and already thinking about a painfully akward conversation with my new neighboors I found what was actually causing it:

The option to "automatically download meta data" and "generate thumbnails". Because behind the videos where actually my content, just with totally wrong metadata. Disabling that option within the serviio client and "rescanning the video metadata" resolved the problem.

Hope this helps anyone being wrongfully accused by his wife - although I don't see anything wrong with it if you are indeed behind it :D

When gathering metadata from the Internet, file naming is crucial for accurate information. It doesn't take much to completely misidentify a title. If you really want to keep your online metadata, see this page for more information: http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=12

Re: Unknown content on seviio network...ie Porn

this is only a comment and I suppose most of you may not like it, let me start out that I understand that you use a Third Party solution to retrieve the metadata, and I understand that you cannot control their content, with that say even so it still places a liability on you, what i mean the Fed's are cracking down on porn being streamed from Untied States servers and sites, and if i have my serviio server pointed to the internet for personal use to stream movies I have purchased to my family or my own device, and the thumbnail representing those movies are labeled with 'porn' titles and the Fed's decide to raid me I have to go through that mess until the find out that the thumbnail are in fact wrong, whom do you think I would sue first.

Now I love Serviio, and probably there is not a easy solution, but in the day and age guilt by association still gets you 25 to life in prison. (that is just a phase). I think most reading this will think I am hammer Serviio, but I am not, what I am saying if you have so many complaints about metadata returning 'porn' thumbnails for movie title, then should you not reconsider whom you are getting this data from. I have a simple movie title 'Aliens' give me 'My Dirty Home Movies 2' with vivid naked woman showing and that really disturbs me, and then to fix it I have to go to "www.themoviedb.org" and search the movie title and try and rename the file so that it get the correct cover and description is ludicrous, I have over 1410 movies and some 8289 TV series episodes. You try renaming all of that and tell me how you would feel. And there is no guarantee that the correct title will stay, could be correct today and tomorrow have a porn title again even though you renamed the file to the correct name. I have that happen several times.

Lucky I had a backup and was able to restore the items that were affected and then just capture the thumbnails and then just placed the images of the movies in the directory and turned everything off and had it just look for the covers locally, some do not always load but when that happens I just get a thumbnail of the a frame in the movie, way better than a naked girl, that I then have to explain why that is there especially if my kids are using Serviio to streaming cartoons with there friends and there friend parents see that. That is not a situation I need to repeat, here is where it could have gone bad, they could have reported that to the authorities, and I would have had to explain why I was showing porn to minors, it does not matter that the thumbnail was wrong and the movie was not actually porn, but the image itself was enough to make it a crime. I have no porn on my server, I do not like porn, and to have it shoved down my throat from a software I like angers me even more. And then to have the owner of the software push it off as a Third Party issue is even worse, you know it is happening but you take no action in correcting it, you look the other way, that is what I meant by 'guilt by association still gets you 25 to life in prison.

Plex does not have this issue, Why does Serviio?

Re: Unknown content on seviio network...ie Porn

Plex uses the same Internet databases as Serviio. What they do in the back end I have no idea, but I have seen Plex misidentify titles before as well. I don't recall any getting tagged as porn, but then Serviio has never done that for me either. Of course I've taken pains to follow the suggested file naming convention since I began ripping my discs. Please don't take that as a dig at your naming. I don't intend that at all.

There is a computer program called Filebot (https://www.filebot.net/) that can rename files very quickly and easily. They have versions for practically all flavors of OS. It too will mis-identify titles on occasion, but overall is a very fast way to rename files.

It would be great if the online databases restricted access to X rated titles when using the methods that Serviio (and others) use to retrieve metadata. Unfortunately it's only under the control of the entities that offer the service.

You may already know, but the latest version of Serviio now has the ability to assign users to devices, and you can restrict access via MPAA ratings on a device/user basis. Also, you can put media that you would allow children to access in a different folder, and restrict access to the non-child titles by device as well. So the Serviio developer has been working on providing better access control of your media. Yes, it might take a little initial setup to configure everything, but worth the effort I believe.

Thank you for the honest reply. I have setup user account(s) and restricted the account to the MPAA ratings but some (thumbnails) still slip through. I have found a solution that works without issue, and that is to have the title images locally, that way i can control what is displayed, if no image exist then all i get is a thumbnail of a frame from the movie itself. I have images of most of my titles, I was able to capture them from the ones that were correct, the others I will do on a one-by-one bases, this way i need not rename the files, because most are named correctly, I have discovered that this issue mostly arises when you 1. Misspell a word in the title, 2. When you use punctuation in the filename such as _EP0XX or -EP0XX, or any punctuation between names, 3. when the title starts with word "The" and you omit the "The" from the title, and the biggest offender is a space at the end of the title name, that is how "Aliens" became "My Dirty Home Movies 2", that one took me a minute to figure out. And no I am not taking it as a dig to my naming, I too try and follow the standard, but we are all not perfect and I say this for myself can get lazy at times.

I am not mad, and i am not going to stop using Serviio, I was just making a comment or suggestion, I glad you read it that way. Well guess what you may have a solution for others that have the same issue as me, until you can find a permanent solution of the misidentified being label as porn with Internet DB stores.

thank you for listening.
