MKV h264 Movie play back is streched vertically

Hi there,

I'm using Serviio with a Samsung HC-5550, I have a problem playing back some MKV files (I'm not using Transcoding, and I would not like to start using it if possible).

My problem is that the 2.35:1 movie plays fine but is a bit stretched vertically. It doesn't fill in completely my 19/6 TV screen but the black stripes at the top and at the bottom are not as thick as they should be. It looks a bit like if it was a 2.20:0 ratio.
The native format of the h264 stream is 720x304 with a high profile 3.1.

Strange thing is that it does work normally on other files which seems (according to MediInfo) completely the same.

I've even tried to modify the h264 file SAR to set it back to 2.35:1, without any success. Also, changing the aspect ratio with MKVTollNix's MKVMerge doesn't seem to have any impact.

I can also add that it does only happen on those kinds of low res MKV files, all my 1080p and 720p stuff is playing back correctly.

Is it a known issue ?
Any idea of what could be the cause of the problem ? Can someone think of a fix ?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Nothing the server can do if it's not transcoded.

Sounds like this may relate: http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/3543 ... pect-Ratio, specifically The issue is probably that your player is ignoring the aspect ratio being set. And some players will use the aspect ratio written to the video stream in preference to what's written at the container level..

You could try the MPEG4 Modifier they recommend to change the aspect ratio of the video stream.
