Hi all
i recently bought a new samsung tv.
the model is ue40hu6900d
i enjoy using serviio for streaming but sometimes i would like to use subtitle as well.
i have tried different formats of movie avi mks and subs but they never get read by the telly. subs are only read if i use the player from the telly (using an external hd).
recentry i found the possibility to have serviio stream the subtitle with the video. but when i do this option the telly doesn't even start to play the video complaining about the format.
can you please suggest any possible solution?
thx to everyone
kar

If the subtitle is embedded within the video, there are certain types of captions that your TV cannot read. If your videos are ripped from Blu-ray discs, that would be one that doesn't work. If the video is a DVD rip, your TV should show them. I had an HU8550 for a few months before Samsung replaced it with a JU7100 and both TVs will show the subtitles from a DVD ripped video.
Another option is using separate subtitle files. The subtitle file must be named exactly the same as the video file, and it again must be in a specific format. My JU7100 supports the following formats. My guess is the HU series will support the same.
MPEG-4 Timed text .ttxt
SAMI .smi
SubRip .srt
SubViewer .sub
Micro DVD .sub or .txt
SubStation Alpha .ssa
Advanced SubStation Alpha .ass
Powerdivx .psb
SMPTE-TT Text .xml

Hi
my first attempt was to use separate file
so normal avi or mkv with the external sub file with the same name of the movie.
using serviio no chance to see the subtitle (it only works if i move the file in an external hd and plug it directly to the television).
the other option comes from serviio: from delivery tab / subtitle you can select enable buned in subtitle ... but at this point i cannot even stream the file. all stops working

I have to say I tried to use an SRT file with a movie last night, and when I tried playing the movie it gave me an error. After removing the SRT file it again played. I have to research it some more, but sometimes the SRT file might not be encoded correctly, by which I mean the text file uses a format other than UTF-8. Notepad++ allows changing encoding of the file, and I'll play with that as soon as i get a chance.
It is also possible to encode the captions directly into the video file. I'll let you know which way I end up going.

Hi ,
I have the same problem with my J series Samsung (UE40J6300). The TV recognizes all my video files, including MKV, but would not load subtitles. Since there is no J profile in Serviio I have used the one for the H series. Anyone found a solution to this yet?
