Upon further investigation, my UN55D6300 plays subtitles included in .mkv files and language select works for those with multiple languages included. MKVToolNix converts and adds .srt files to videos. It's not tractable for huge collections, but as a stop-gap solution while support for these newer TVs is added, this is a decent option.

I have a fix for external subtitles for the J series. It'll ship in 1.6 soon.

Great!, exited to see if transcoding will work too.

Haven't managed to get transcoding working so far. They screwed up with the Tizen models big time. Anyone knows about a server that supports transcoding with the J series?

Maybe a storm of support/complaint mails will wake them up?
Besides "transcoding does not work", are there any details that would help specify the problem?

Well, Plex seems to transcode with my JU set. I'll double-check this evening to make sure it isn't faulty memory.

As much as I like their GUI, I still far prefer Serviio.

Hey there!

Any ideas on when 1.6 will be officially released?

Cheers.

It's still in the beta testing stage. I believe he's hoping to test a release candidate soon, but give him time. He's made a number of good changes and they all need to be tested well first.

great news!
now subtitles work on 1.6!

I noticed only two small problems:
- still appears double extension (eg filename.avi.avi)
- the "&" character is bad encoded (eg "&" become "& amp;")

great job!!

tested with ue48ju7000
Thanks

That'sthe TV adding the second avi - pretty stupid

- the "&" character is bad encoded (eg "&" become "& amp;")

Again, a bug in the TV software. It works on other renderers, incl. older Samsungs

Subtitles are working! Thanks so much. One question though, Serviio detects my un55j6300 as a un55j6200 and it is listed as such in connected devices. Anyone else having this issue? Any idea why this is?

The TV identifies itself like that.

I don't think it matters much.

Thanks to new version external subs work. Big thanks to zip.

However since FW update to 1420 and then also to 1440 on Samsung J-Series, internal subs work for about 40 mins and then stop showing although you can change subs tracs. It´s not a serviio issue, so I contacted samsung support 3 weeks ago right after the 1420 FW release and they told me, that they don't support 3rd party SW (eventhough I just mentioned DLNA) and I can just hope they will fix it someday eventually. So eventhough I like Samsung TVs and I have a E and J series models, this reaction made my blood boil.

Do they still support their own DLNA server? I couldn't find it the other day. In which case all servers would be 3rd party so all their DLNA stuff is basically unsupported ;-) Unless there is some Samsung mobile casting app that doesn't need a server and can play this file.
