Profile for Samsung J Series

Hi,
Is there a profile for the J series? I am having problems with the playback of many videos files using the H-series profile on my Samsung JU7000 TV. It would be great if people who have the expertise share their custom profiles until an official profile is out.

Lots of topics about this. It seems more people are getting these tv.
Let's hope this will help with having a profile for it.
So are you saying you have problems with playing videos ? I have only heard of problems with the external subtitles.

Can you provide media info for something that doesn't play? Please be more specific about any problems you are having. I use the H profile for mine, and don't seem to have any difficulty.

Oh yes, I have tried with many different video files ( some of which you don't want to know the content :) ) and encountered many that through Serviio could not be played using the H profile.
As an alternative, connected a hard disk directly to the TV using its USB port and then the TV could play them flawlessly.

Sure, what specific media info and details should I provide? I'll collect the info from now on when I encounter playback problems.

atc98092: For me, playback of videos is OK but subtitles are NEVER loaded. From an USB stick or USB HDD everything runs fine even with subtitles.

First, USB and DLNA playback is not always equal. What works with one may not with the other, but there's nothing "wrong". It's just the way the manufacturer has decided to implement one or the other.

For the media info, what is desired is the container (MP4, MKV, M2TS, etc.), video codec (MPEG2, AVC, H264, etc.) and audio codec (AC3, DTS, AAC, etc.). There are additional details that may help as well, so I suggest using a program like MediaInfo, as well as FFMPEG output (command line use).

Subtitles must be in a container that supports their function. For our Samsung sets, that seems to be MKV and TS. I've never been able to get them to work with MP4 or others, but I haven't put much effort into it. Also, if the file is being transcoded by Serviio (older Samsung profiles will do this with almost everything) then the captions are stripped out during the transcoding process.

OK. But many other users have also problems with no subs and J series Samsung TVs.
You can look at following topic: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=19198

For me, I have tested so far MKVs + external srts (same naming convention) and without subs. For F and H series TVs it was OK with these subs.

Maybe it is something new in subtitles loading via DLNA on Samsung J series... dont know anything deeper. I am just a user :-)

I only have an external SRT for one video. I'll figure out which one it is and see if it works for me.

I found that I have external SRT files for several movies, so I tested a couple of them. One movie gave me captions, but another did not. I'll have to research the one that worked to see if it actually had the captions within the MKV container, as I know those work ok.

I also did a complete reinstall of my test server (rolled back to Windows 7 because of Media Center), and the default Serviio profile for the H series does not work correctly on my JU set. Since it works on my main server, I'll compare what I've changed and post it here. We really do need an updated profile for the J series. My guess is that with the change to the Tizen OS there's something that changed with DLNA playback as well. :x

I posted that in the Wiki. That's not a profile, just a Device Spy listing of the supported protocols. I don't know how to build a profile out of that information, or there's already be one. We need someone that understands what that all means to translate it into a profile.

Ah ok, thanks anyway ... dunno if this might help, its a custom user made profile for UMS. I have to use UMS now since I have majority of movies in mkv container with external subs (EN mkv + CZ ext subs). Here is the link for the UMS profile: http://www.universalmediaserver.com/for ... 87666ab092
