mkv files not appearing on BD-J5900 player

Hello

I recently bought a BD-J5900 bluray player, and when i browse my shared folders, mkv files aint showing.
If i choose Generic DLNA profile on the player, it shows like 2 mkv files out of 50. I dont get this at all. I have multiple smart-tvs and players from samsung and all the other ones works just fine

I've tried to reboot, reinstall serviio, even reinstalled to an older serviio version but it didnt help.

I installed plex on my computer just to try, and it worked there, but plex sucks compared to serviio :/

Please help

What profile are you using? Try the J-Series Samsung TV one.

Re: mkv files not appearing on BD-J5900 player

I've tried all the samsung profiles, really. I just came home from a friends place who also uses serviio with multiple samsung units... i took the player to his place, and the same thing happened there.

The strange thing is, if i rename a .mkv file to .avi and serviio updates database with the change, i still cannot see this .avi file. Its like its up to which codec the file has?

Also found out now, same thing with .mp4 files as .mkv.

Serviio works fine with other units, and plex works fine with this one.. i dont get it.

Re: mkv files not appearing on BD-J5900 player

Remember that just saying MKV doesn't mean anything. MKV is a container, and the video and audio codec it contains is more important to why something may or may not appear. That said, I do have an occasional file that doesn't show up, and I have no idea why. For example, I have all 6 Star Wars episodes ripped from Blu-Ray, so are all identical, but episode one doesn't appear in all my players. Perhaps it's making an editorial comment about that particular movie :o

So, pick a video that doesn't show and run ffmpeg -i against it and post the results. Lets see if you have some strange codec within.

Re: mkv files not appearing on BD-J5900 player

I can do that when i get home from work today. The strange thing is that everything shows up and plays perfectly on like 6 other units, but not on this one.

Im concidering to return this player and buy another one instead.

I have a Samsung H series BD player, and I don't even use it. I've had better experience with Sony players.

Re: mkv files not appearing on BD-J5900 player

This is ffmpeg -i output i get.

Note that this is one of like 2000 mkv files which is not showing on BD-J5900, but which shows on all other players.
It's nothing special about this file at all.

No matter which dlna profile i choose for this player.

Re: mkv files not appearing on BD-J5900 player

That sure looks like it should be fine. Just a shot in the dark, but that's a pretty old version of FFMPEG. Is that the one Serviio is using? What OS are you running?

I think theres something wrong with the profiles here.

Using the samsung J series profile. If i switch over to the C/D or E/F profiles, all files are playable, but still the last one does NOT show up.

Can anyone please explain? I'm going crazy here :/

Re: mkv files not appearing on BD-J5900 player

You could try to remove these 2 lines from the sam_j profile:

  Code:
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="high" levelGreaterThan="4.2" />
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="main" levelGreaterThan="4.2" />

Last time I checked transcoded files were not playable on Samsung J - so try to play them natively.

Can you post the whole ffmpeg -i for the last file?

This is the complete output of a file that wont show up no matter which profile i use:

I tried to remove those 2 lines and then restarted serviio service and changed to J profile, but it didnt help. "File format not supported"
Another strange thing is that when i switch to E/F profile, "some" new files shows up, which doesnt show with the J profile.

Already running 1.6.1 (I've also tried earlier versions)

Disabling transcoding gives the same result as giving the player the J-profile.

I'm not sure how those things work in plex. I just installed it and everything happened automatically. I dont find any settings for the player either in plex.
I just installed plex to test, really.
If you're familiar with the plex setup, perhaps you know where to find what you're looking for?

Just to confirm - are you looking in the Folders category for the missing mkv files? Just that thay won't appear in movies if the metadata is not correct.
