This doesn't answer your question directly, but it's a workaround.

Use the "roku 4k tv" profile for streaming to the nu series.
At least untill they make the new profile.
I have a un75nu7100 and this is working for me for 4k UHD hevc mkv files with truehd and dts audio.

The main issue is DTS audio-my samsung doesn't like it.

Another workaround is on this forum, regarding editing the profiles.xml which I can confirm also works but I'm having trouble finding it the thread

I should also point out that 99% of the problem in regards to transcoding files to nu7100 is the audio. I've tested by removing the audio from 10 different 4k mkvs and the TV plays all of them. Which tells that the audio is the problem.
If anyone is proficient in MKVToolnix and are desperate to test the tv, simply open file in MKVToolnix and remove the first audio, then click Start Muxing or Start Remuxing I forget which offhand. Then it'll spit out a compatible mkv that plays on the TV (if there's a second audio-check with media info)
The reason this works is because most of the 4k mkvs I come across with torrents have a 2nd audio which 99% of the time is AC3 in which the nu7100 series likes. The 1st audio is usually something the TV doesn't like such as DTS, DTSX Truehd Etc.

I'm no pro but I have spent the last two weeks working on serviio for the nu7100. I've got it streaming from Synology-docker, and windows 10 working great.

I hope this helps somebody. I agoninized over this for weeks.

And BTW, I'm pretty sure the serviio devs make profiles as fast as they can. I'm not sure if they are even paid, but we need to be patient and grateful they even make new profiles because I know they aren't getting rich from us

Very few TVs support any audio codecs other than PCM and AC3 (Dolby Digital). Some older sets don't even support AC3 from an external source. But as mentioned, there might be other profiles that offer sufficient processing to handle the media you have. Testing other profiles is the first and best thing to try when you have issues with playback, particularly with a Smart TV.

Unfortunately, someone has to have a particular piece of equipment (such as an N series Samsung) to be able to create a profile. But if you identify files that will play and then files that won't, we can assist with suggestions for creating a user profile that you can save and won't get lost when Serviio is updated.

Looking at the specs it seems to play most mainstream media natively, with the exception of DTS audio. This is pretty common in newer TV's, i expect as the manufacturer can avoid paying licensing costs DTS.

Bearing in mind I haven't got this TV to test at all, I have constructed the attached profile based on simple DTS remuxing, and borrowing the header and detection blocks from the Samsung J profile. Detection may not work so you may have to manually assign the profile.

Save the attached file to your Serviio\config folder. In Serviio Console, Status tab, stop the Server (button at the bottom) and then restart it. This will reload the profiles. Check that the profile is assigned to your TV (you may need to refresh the tab) and if not manually assign it (profile is called "Samsung N Series (2018)").

Let me know how it goes.

Sorry, you are right, I should be more specific.

I loaded the profile and I could see it. Assigned teh profile to my Q series TV ( I know this is a N series profile) and tried to watch some MKV with DTS enabled. MKV did not load. Samsung DNLA browser did not open the movie. Just got spinning blue circle.

Not sure I can help. I don't have a Samsung TV but from the forums it appears some of the models in recent times had some issues handling transcoded file. I think the Q series was one of them.
Others may be able to help.

Yes, my JU series won't play transcoded files. At least it couldn't last time I tried. I gave up on the Samsung internal player long ago. I first used a Roku player, and now have an Nvidia Shield on that TV. The Shield plays everything without transcoding, and provides all lossless audio codecs to my AVR. And my wife still uses the Sony BD player that's connected to it as well. Neither of us could deal with the Samsung functionality any longer. I couldn't even tell you the last time I used any app in the TV itself.

I'm sorry if this has been solved already, but I just wanted to post my custom Samsung NU8000 Profile that I created last year (I forgot to post it earlier).
It transcodes DTS to AC3 (If I remember correctly) and just streams everything else directly. The profiles I found here and tested all didn't work for me.
With this I can stream anything now (audio: dts 8-) , ac3) that I tested.
I apologize if the profile is super hacky, but it works for me. :D

Is anyone here having the same issues ?
The generic DLNA profile can play those mkv and allows to fast forward/backward but without sound so I don't think this is an issue of mkv file type. Is there a profile for Samsung NU TV that fixes these issues ?

Transcoding a file removes the ability to FF/Rewind, unless it is using the HLS transcoding format. If you've updated to Serviio 2.0, the Roku profiles now all use HLS unless the video codec is VC-1. You might try the Roku 4K TV profile again to see if it works now. The Chaneru profile also uses HLS, although it transcodes far more than your TV requires. But it would be a good test.

You are correct that it's not the MKV container. The same happens regardless of container if transcoding is necessary.

I'm running Serviio 2.0, unfortunately neither Roku 4K TV nor Chaneru makes FF/Rewind available. Any idea why ?

I"d have to know the codec specifics about your media file. I know it's in a MKV container, but need the details about the audio and video codecs it contains to determine what's going on. Like I said, if the video is VC-1, the Roku profile uses a different method of transcoding that doesn't support trick play. I have no idea if a Samsung TV will play VC-1 video, although the fact you can play it without audio at least points to a supported video codec.

Does the codec id V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC mean it's VC-1 ? If that's the case, I guess there's no way for me to stream video with DTS sound from a device in another room to my TV and still have the ability to FF/RW :cry: I heard people invested in NAS, how could it be worth it if they had to convert audio to ac-3 for each movie ? Or are your TV simply smarter can play anything by itself ?

Any profile that transcodes will lose trick play, unless it uses HLS transcoding. I'm assuming your TV is 4K capable, but if it's not then the "Roku 1080 Media Player (2016+)" profile is a good one to test with. I'm looking at that profile now, I can't see anything that would cause your 2nd file to transcode. The only possible Matches line is looking for a video with a width of greater than 1920. Both of your files have a width of 1280, so that line should be ignoring it.

Your video is H.264, and the only lines that Match that must also match the audio codec of dts-hd or truehd, which neither of your files have. I can't find any Roku profile that would cause your file with ac3 audio to transcode except the basic "Roku Media Player" profile. Please make absolutely sure you are using a different Roku profile. IN fact, I suggest trying the Roku 4K TV profile, as that most likely matches the capabilities of your TV the closest.

If it is still transcoding the 2nd file, then I have to see a detailed log. Follow the link to see how to enable it, and make sure you delete your existing log before you run the detailed one. It gets very large quickly, so we don't need any extra information within it.

Yet trick play is unavailable for me with Serviio 2.0 and Roku 4K TV profile, which like you said, uses HLS transcoding. I've always been using this profile and Serviio 2.0. So I don't understand why.
And yes my TV is 4K. Videos are streamed from my Windows 10 PC.
Below is the log. It was recorded when the second file was being streamed using Roku 4K TV profile (which made trick play become unavailable).

can you tell me the file name? There's almost 3000 lines to go through in the log, and that would save time for searching.
