Bad sound quality for most movies/series on Samsung C-Series

Hi,

I use a Samsung UE46C6200 to render Serviio content.

I don't know if this is a Serviio issue. I doubt it. Still I am not sure. For some movies and series like 'Chuck' the background music is really loud and the spoken/conversation parts are impossible to understand. Turning up the volume helps a little but then sometimes the background sound and music is just unbearably loud. When I watch the same episode on my laptop it is fine at low volume. I tried changing the audio settings in the Samsung menu without much success.

Probably this isn't Serviio but I am just out of any ideas. Can anybody hint me in the right direction to solve this?

Cheers,
sampy

I think it might be a 5.1 problem. The video is probably 5.1 and the TV doesn't map the channels right to your stereo TV speakers. I had that before I bought home cinema system ;-) You might want to try reencoding one movie into stereo and see if it helps.

Hmmm...sounds like a good idea. I'll give it a try. I remember several episodes of Chuck which were especially difficult to listen to. I will also try and play it from an USB stick plugged in the back of the TV. Maybe it makes a difference compared to DLNA?

It is somehow strange though because I doubt a HDTV avi of Chuck would have 5.1 sound. I think it will have stereo. Still I'll give it a try.

Thanks,

P.S.: maybe you could allow to force transcoding with every movie and allow users to set the output format for video and audio.
