Samsung D-Series sound cut-out for seconds on Dolby

Hi all!

I've use since 2011 a Samsung D-series 37-inch TV, and already for 4-5 years with Serviio over a HP Microserver N40L (Windows 10). I'm very happy with it, I live in Hungary, i can't buy in every 2-3yrs a new TV, etc. Till now i've used with a Denon stereo integrated power amp over the TV's headphone out. Now i bought a JVC 7.1 receiver, plugged with the TV via Optical. I've changed the sound setting on the TV from PCM, to Dolby Digital. And the sound, and just the sound is stuttering. Just cut's out for 1-2sec, the receiver shows no signal, than the sound (signal) come back. In a minute 10-15 times. Somethimes work for 10 minutes, then its stuttering again.
The TV plugged over Gb ethernet, naturally the Microserver also. The microserver's CPU runs beetween 10%-100%, but never long time on 100%. Serviio set to Samsung (C/D-Series). With A-series profile, no stuttering, but also no FF, REW, etc.

I talk about MKV movies size beetween 6 to 15GB, with multi dub (original, and hungarian). When stuttering then stuttering with any language dub.

I've already tried with any computer what I have, the result:
- HP Microserver (N40L, Win 10, LAN) - C/D-series profile --> stuttering
- HP Microserver (N40L, Win 10, LAN) - A-series profile --> no stuttering, but FF, REW not available
- CPU beetween 10-100%

- DellOptiplex 780 (Intel E8400, Win 7, LAN) - C/D-series profile --> stuttering
- Dell Optiplex 780 (Intel E8400, Win 7, LAN) - C/D-series profile --> no stuttering, but FF, REW not available
- CPU beetween 10-100%

- Dell Latitude E6430 (Win 7, WIFI (!)) - C/D-series profile --> everything fine
- CPU beetween 0-20%

I know the Latitude is much better than the Microserver, but the microserver isnt run 100%, and with A-series profile work, but with limitation.

Throug the 1.7 - 2.1 version is the same issue.

Here is some log, from the Microserver during playback:

First, your English is fine. I have great respect for anyone who can converse in more than one language. :D

So the only thing that changed was the AVR. The same TV, the same Serviio running on the server. If you still have your former AVR, I'd put it back in place of the Denon and see if it still happens. If it does not, then the issue is obviously with the Denon. As to why, I have no idea.

Now, you did change from using the headphone output to the optical out on the TV. That of course is a completely different form of audio (analog vs. digital). As a test, please try some other TV profiles. There are some Sony TV profiles, as well as the Roku TV. Just looking for one that might help identify what is going on. You might even find one that works well enough that you can just stick with that one.

Re: Samsung D-Series sound cut-out for seconds on Dolby

For first I also thought the problem is the AVR. But, as i described it, streaming from my Latitude notebook over WIFI to my Router, than over LAN to my TV is no problem with Dolby sound. But from my Microserver, or from my Optiplex desktop PC, which all two have weaker CPU-s, but connecter over cable to my router can't stream the sound without stuttering. With PCM mode is no problem, but there is no native dolby sound from the mkv-s, just what AVR produce from the PCM (I think stereo) signal.

I would need to see what codecs your media contains. There's a link in my signature line that explains how to get the content information from your files. We need to know what we're starting with, and then determine why the TV isn't passing it correctly.

Re: Samsung D-Series sound cut-out for seconds on Dolby

Now I tried the other way, I connected my Latitude notebook to the LAN, and turned off the Wifi. And the sound stream starts to stutter. I plugged a TP-Link usb wifi stick to my Microserver, pulled the LAN cable, and no stuttering, but it droppes from the network, but this come from the weak WIFI stick. I think my router (TP-LINK but with the latest OpenWRT software) not allow some port, or feature on LAN, but it allows on WIFI...

So, my question is, what is the difference between the A-Series (which stream over LAN smooth) and the C/D-series profile, that my router not loves over LAN, but stream throught over WIFI without any stuttering.

Well, without spending a lot of time, it looks like the A series is a more basic profile that extends from the first Samsung profile in the file, while the C/D profile extends from a profile that has already been extended from a couple of others. It would take a lot of referencing back and forth to see where any differences truly lie. If I had a TV to test on, it might be worth creating an updated profile to clean some of the previously extended profiles.

But to even think about doing that, I'd need to know exactly the contents of your media. It's next to impossible to work on something like this without knowing what you're attempting to play. I need the info I asked for in the previous posts.

Thanks, here is three mediainfo, but actually every mkv had this stuttering problem. SD movies, like ~1.5GB AVIs with DTS or Dolby audio has not these probrems.

Re: Samsung D-Series sound cut-out for seconds on Dolby

OK, I made a best guess on a TV model number and downloaded a manual from Samsung. The problem is, it's a US version manual and something in the EU might have different specs. That said, it appears your TV should play all three of those files without requiring transcoding. Don't expect the TV to display the captions, however, as those are VOBSUB, which are image based captions tracks and the TV doesn't support them. There's also a caution in the manual that states: "Video content can not be played, if there are many contents in one file.". Now I really don't know what they mean by that, as they don't offer any details. But your file does contain a video track, two audio tracks, and two of them have three captions tracks. I can't say if they might think that is "many".

However, since those files appear to be playable, let's try something. Change the profile assigned to your TV to the Generic profile. This does no transcoding, and sends pretty much everything though untouched. We're looking for two things. One, do they now play without any stuttering. Two, to they even appear as a selection to be played. Sometimes the TV and Serviio don't agree about what's playable, so they won't display a file at all. I want to see if that happens.

Re: Samsung D-Series sound cut-out for seconds on Dolby

The serviio streams any of these movies without transcoding.

I will try tomorrow with Generic Profile. Way time ago I used with the Generic, and the TV show all movies, but not every was playable (not supported error).

But some news:
Today evening I watched 3 movies. With my Microserver, with the C/D-Series profile, every movie over 10GB, 2 of them with Dolby Digital, and one with DTS. I tried changing between the languages while the most original DUB is DTS, and the most Hungarian DUB is Dolby. All three movie with any dub was played through without any stuttering.
The (not the real) solution was: my microserver disconnected from LAN, and through a TP Link usb wifi stick connected to the same router but via wifi.
If I pull the wifi stick, plug back the UTP cable, restart, etc, the sound stream stuttering again..

This must be my router's bad setup. Cause its only the C/D profile which allows to play all of my movies, with FF/Rew option, i need a solution to to get work the C/D profile over LAN.

Re: Samsung D-Series sound cut-out for seconds on Dolby

If it's working perfectly via WiFi but stuttering when hard wired, there's something wrong with the network connection. It could be the built in network adapter in your server, the cable itself, or perhaps a bad jack on your router. But I don't think you're going to find a solution to the stutter until you resolve the network issue. Using a different profile that works better is only masking your network issue.

I think ist might be the router, because I tried with my notebook, which streams through wifi without any problem, but stutters with cable (not the same cable, not the same port).

This repeats in the log through streaming, everytime if the sound cut-out for a bit. Now is turned back my router from OpenWRT to the original TP-Link's latest firmware, but the same problem. Through WI-FI no problem.

To my limited understanding of what gets logged, that all appears normal.

I think you've pretty much identified it's a network issue, and there's nothing that Serviio can do differently to "fix" that.
