I have the same issue with my B series TV and D series HT.. audio cuts out 1-2 seconds from the start of the HBO logo.. no matter True Blood, Weeds or Entourage.. all happen at exactly the same spot.. I tried playing via my XBOX and no problems.. looks like the samsung media players crash.. wonder if its intentionally added,

Any news on resolving this issue or any workaround we can use?

Thanks.

I'm having the same problem. All HBO shows. I have sound during the "Previously on" recap. It disappears starting at the HBO programming logo.

My device is a Samsung portable blu-ray player (BD-C8000)

Exact same thing is happening on my new BD-F6500

Only solution I have found so far is to use the time bar skip feature in tools to go past the HBO logo, or to stop it after the audio messes up and resume play from afterwards.

Incredibly annoying and strange... Also seems like some files that begin immediately with the HBO logo won't play, there will be a second of audio and then it will restart over and over

This actually happens via Serviio on the wifi connection and even when files are played direct from a usb

Sounds like this problem: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=10464&p=69685&hilit=game+of+thrones#p69685

As detailed in that post the audio changes in these files: "it's due to the HBO shows having PCM 2 channel stereo audio for the recaps and then 5.1 audio for the show.....and the BD does not handle the switch in the audio format." This is not quite correct, the audio stays as AC3, but does change from stereo to 6 channel - when I do the suggestion below I get this message in the ffmpeg output confirming this is the issue:

    "Input stream #0:1 frame changed from rate:4800 fmt:fltp ch:2 ch1:stereo to rate:4800 fmt:fltp ch:6 ch1:5.1(side)"
As your player cannot handle this change in audio, you will need to re-encode it either using something like handbrake (as suggested in the other post), or you should be able to do this with the ffmpeg command from the Serviio lib folder.
Try this:

  • from the command line, in your Serviio lib folder type ffmpeg -i "srcfile.mkv" -vcodec copy -acodec ac3 -ac 6 -ab 384k "destfile.mkv"
substituting srcfile for your file name (with full path). This will create a new mkv (destfile) - move it to your library and see if it plays correctly. This command copies the video stream (no loss of quality) into a new mkv file, converting the audio to 5.1 channel as it goes. It is reasonably quick. If this works, rename the original file to *.bak and rename the destfile to the original file name. Refresh your library.
  • If that doesn't work (it should), try also changing to a mpeg2 container: ffmpeg -i "srcfile.mkv" -bsf h264_mp4toannexb -vcodec copy -acodec ac3 -ac 6 -ab 384k "destfile.m2ts". You should not need to do this though....

It worked with True Detective. I believe it will work with others. Thanks :)
