Samsung D8000 TV stops playing ball

Hi - I have been delighted with Serviio until a few days ago, and was looking to donate, but...

I save TV programs from broadcasts as packaged .mpgs using an EyeTV brick on my Mac, and until recently, my Samsung D8000 series TV played any of them without any problem. A few days ago, possibly since a software upgrade to the TV, the TV refuses to play any of the HD programs (TV says not supported file format). The SD files created by EyeTV play fine, but now I have to export the HD files first from EyeTV. Even EyeTV HD files which played previously don't play now. Nothing else has changed. They play fine on the Mac. Mediainfo says the files are MPEG-TS - full details are attached.

Serviio correctly sees the TV as a UE55D8000 Samsung TV/ (C/D -series) and shows a green traffic light. The tv shows the Serviio folders perfectly, and all files have the correct images in their icons. I'm using a wired network.

I've reinstalled Serviio, recreated the library links and restarted. I'd be very grateful if somebody can tell me where to start digging - the info asked for in the forum is attached.

Re: Samsung D8000 TV stops playing ball

Can you either post your serviio.log or look through it and find the ffmpeg command used to transcode the video and run it in a console and post the results here.

Re: Samsung D8000 TV stops playing ball

Run the whole command

  Code:
ffmpeg -i "/Users/mike/TV progs/EyeTV Archive/Passing of a Generation - Education.eyetv/0000000010aada6c.mpg" -y -vcodec copy -vbsf h264_mp4toannexb -copyts -acodec ac3 -ab 192k -ac 2 -map 0:0 -map 0:1 -sn -f mpegts /var/folders/5l/shsgcvc56zz4_mp3q76c4qz40000gn/T/Serviio/transcoding-temp-267-MPEG2TS.stf

the command is still not right (output file path is wrong), can you replace the file path after -f mpegts with some valid file path?

I wonder if ffmpeg does not have permission for the folder.

Re: Samsung D8000 TV stops playing ball

Had changed permissions to read + write for all - a 25kb binary file is created in the folder. Running as SU does not change anything. Sorry. Mike

try adding this to the ffmpeg command and running it again. Post the results after you run it.

  Code:
-vbsf h264_mp4toannexb

that is already in the command line. It looks like a dodgy stream.

Hi Petr - May be a dodgy stream, but I used to be able to play a lot just like it!

Its now uploaded.

Re: Samsung D8000 TV stops playing ball

FFmpeg cannot deal with this file (I even tried the latest Win build) so in my mind there are 2 possibilities that might have happened:

1) the sw recording the stream changed the output format, so that the video part cannot be remuxed by FFmpeg any more
2) the sw recording the stream changed the audio stream to mp2, thus triggering transcoding (and failing)

Can you find an older file, that worked 100% and run ffmpeg -i on it?

Re: Samsung D8000 TV stops playing ball

Unfortunately, this is a snippet of the older file that used to play on the Samsung. I have many of them from as far back as a couple of years. I never verified that it was even necessary to transcode under Samsung SW V 001013 or 001014; it just worked. It certainly doesn't play now with 001015, whether stramed and transcoded or whether on a local disk attached to the TV. I will see if I can revert to previous Samsung firmware.

I will ask Elgato as well, but they have not changed their software for quite a while.

Many thanks for all your help.

Re: Samsung D8000 TV stops playing ball

You might want to try an older version of FFMPEG, maybe something in FFMPEG was changed.

Re: Samsung D8000 TV stops playing ball

Should be nothing with the firmware, in this case it's FFmpeg failing. You can ry to remove this line from the C/D profile, restart your PC and try again.

  Code:
<Matches container="mpegts" aCodec="mp2" />

Re: Samsung D8000 TV stops playing ball

Thanks, Petr, I removed that line from the config file, but that didn't work.

I've now uploaded a snippet (snippet 2) of a lower-def file, also saved previously by the same version of Elgato's EyeTV, that plays fine now (and did before) on the Samsung D series.

Attached to this msg is the output from Mediainfo for the snippet 2 that plays OK, followed by terminal's ffmpeg output - if that helps...

http://www.lesbastides.com/serviio/a%20 ... 0HD.eyetv/

For Mark - thanks - however, it stopped working only a few days ago when I was on version 0.6.0.0 - and I hadn't seen any upgrades to Serviio in the last couple of weeks. That's why I updated to v 0.6.0.1

Re: Samsung D8000 TV stops playing ball

the ffmpeg output is not complete, the file path is wrong (as you can see at the bottom of the output). Try to run the transcode command used above with the new file.

Back again - yep screwed up last night. Have rerun the command on the mpg that works - snippet2.
