Should Samsung UA40D6600 be able to play H264 MPEG4 AVC p10?

Hi,

Been using Serviio with the above TV for a month or so, and I absolutely love it. It's a great product and has provided a great experience. I hit the first mkv I couldn't get to play today. I'm using 0.6.0.1 and VLC reports the video codec as "H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)". ffmpeg reports:

I have transcoding disabled on Serviio (haven't had to use it yet, would prefer not to). When I load up the clip on the TV (or even my Samsung HTD5500, the both say "Video Codec Not Supported". I didn't think the above format was that bizarre? Isn't H264 MPEG4 pretty common? Is it possible my TV doesn't support this format (anyone else got a 6600?).

I though the error message was possible erroneous and might have been related to the Vorbis soundtrack, so I used MKVToolnix to remux it with only the first 2 Streams, giving me an updated ffmpeg output of:

But nothing change. Same video codec error.

So, can anyone provide some insight as to whether or not this is just a TV incompatibility or what I could do to overcome this?

Thank you.

P.S. I have Serviio manually set to see my TV as a "Samsung TV / player (C/D-series)" which has always worked best for me. Is that right?

Re: Should Samsung UA40D6600 be able to play H264 MPEG4 AVC

please provide a mediainfo report for this file, you might want to also try renmoving everything from the file except the video and Vorbis audio track and then trying to play the file but i suspect the profile level is also to high and will need to be changed.

yes it is supported by serviio but profile level is to high see below.

Format profile : High@L5.1 <--- as i expected this is to high and will need to be changed down to L4.1 ( tool to do this can be found in our third party forum section.

Thank you. Could you give me a pointer as to what tool I'm looking for? (Preferably for *nix or Mac). Or, perhaps give me an idea of what function I'm looking to perform to alter the profile level? Is this going to require re-encoding?

there are also 12 ref frames, so just changing the level might not help.

Reducing the AVC level seems to result in an unplayable clip. Thanks for your help guys.

yer we feared that see ZIPs comment above, so only way would be to completely recode the file into a better format, sry.
