Can't play using wired connection, only wifi works

Hi guys,

I don't know why this happening to me.

Well, let me show all my devices:

PC
Intel Core i5 2500 3,3Ghz
8Gb Ram
Windows 7 Ultimate

Router
TP-Link WR1043ND using DD-WRT v24-sp2 (08/07/10) std - build 14896

Access Point Wifi
TP-Link WA901 3.12.6 Build 110214 Rel.33012n

TV
Samsung 46' LED - UN46C5000QM

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've tested 2 connections:

1- TV -> wired connection -> Router -> wired connection -> PC

2 - TV -> wired connection ->Access Point -> wifi connection -> Router -> wired connection -> PC

Only the 2 connection works, because when I use 1 connection, my TV can't play the movies, it say "Can't play this format" or "network was disconnected"

I've tested using .avi and .mkv format files. I'm sure that nothing to do with format file, because I can play mkv and avi without problem when using 1 connection.

This is weird because in theory wired connection is to be better than wifi, right? But with me is the opposite.

Any suggestion will help a lot.

Thanks guys.

Matiello

id say it was a router issue and if you put a decent branded router (netgear wndr4000 hint hint if your on virgin bb) you be fine and it would work flawlessly.

Thanks for prompt reply.

The problem is the price of NetGear routers. In my country this router is so expensive. I'll try figure out this problem using this router, but if I can't find a solution, will be necessary change again my router.

Yesterday, I've done a kind of tests. I enabled the UpnP function on my router but the problem remained.

Then I decided to take off the others 2 pc on my LAN and I left connected only my PC and TV. This is so weird because the problem didn't happen. Then I've done many tests changing the ports of router. Finally I've reached a conclusion that 1 pc on my lan can't be on 3 or 4 port of my router.

Ok, but yesterday night, the problem came back, even leaving this pc disconnected of my lan. And now I don't know what to do.

But I think the problem is really on my router. It can't do a streaming very well.

Everyhing else works perfectly, but this is impossible, TP-Link is terrible to use DLNA.

Thanks
Matiello

Do you have QoS (upload) enabled?

update

The problem started again

I've found the problem is with QOS(upload) and network traffic

If I turn off QOS (upload) the problem goes away. Enable it again and the GUI slows down.

QOS(download) has no effect on the GUI speed either enabled or disabled

I would try disableling everything that is not required to use the router and see if it helps. then enable one at a time until you find that problem.

I would also post on the DD-WRT forums, the experts there will be able to help with the settings and the actual router. If you do post there and find anything out. Please post a link here so we know what is going on.

Also I would check if there are no IP conflicts, check router logs for dhcp and maybe other connectivity, port errors.

AFAIK access point and your tv gets the same IP during operation, therefore I would also switch off access point while connecting with cable to avoid IP conflict.

Let us know how it goes.

Cheaper routers sometimes do crazy things. :D
I'd just check that to be sure.

I would also consider testing with different cables, often people have problems because of faulty cables. Sometimes reseting might help (especially if router was not reset after a firmware upgrade).

My QoS is disable. I've checked every service and all is disable. I tried disable router fiwarell but nothing happened.

About IP conflicts, is normal. Because I use DHCP but I setup Static ip for the PCs and TV, then DHCP always give the same IP.

About cables, I tested different cables, crossover and straigh cable, crimp many times. I think the problem isn't cable because I tested using PC and the speed and connectivity is normal.

--------------------

Last time, I watched the last episode of Walking Dead and I have the problem, but I changed the order of cable on router.

Before:
- PC 1
- PC 2
- TV
- PC 3

Now:
- PC 1
- PC 3
- TV
- PC 2

Or be, I only changed PC 2 and PC 3, not even touch in TV cable. This is so weird.

This night I'll test again with this order.

Thanks guys for your big help ;)

Matiello

EDIT: Yeah guys, the problem didn't happen... Since yesterday, the problem vanished and I don't know why... I'm afraid that is back sooner or later... But now is ok...

I'll keep this topic updated.

Thanks ;)
