Samsung .WTV no sound

Hi,

I have a Samsung UE40D7000 and everything is great regarding Serviio (0.6.2) apart from .wtv files. These are created using Windows Media Center TV Recording feature
The video of these play fine but have no sound.

I have tried taking the latest stable release of ffmpeg (ffmpeg-20120503-git-c1fe2db-win64-static) and replacing this into serviio\lib but still the same problem.
Profile of the TV in Serviio is shown as 'Samsung TV / Player (C/D-series). I have tried setting this to a B series but still no sound.

running ffmpeg.exe -i I see the following error ...

[mpeg2video @ 0000000001e100a0] mpeg_decode_postinit() failure

Here's the full output....

Re: Samsung .WTV no sound

Hi,

I have been investigating this a little and I have found that if I set the following

<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" forceVTranscoding="true">
<Matches container="wtv" />
</Video>

then SOME .wtv files are transcoded correctly. This is very strange as the source of the .wtv files is the same? For the files that do not transcode; I see a 'File Type Not Supported' error on the TV and in the serviio.log file I see this error.

2012-05-13 01:29:36,854 WARN [ProcessExecutor] Process cmd has a return code of 255! This is a possible error.
2012-05-13 01:29:42,346 ERROR [ResourceTransportRequestHandler] Error while processing resource, sending back 500 error. Message: FFmpeg execution failed

at org.serviio.upnp.webserver.WebServer$WorkerThread.run(WebServer.java:187)

Ideally I don't want to use transcoding as I'm sure that Serviio supports .wtv

To add to my confusion I have also tried the following config
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" >
<Matches container="wtv" />
</Video>
so no transcoding and again SOME files will play - others again are failing with 'Unsupported File Type'. Again ALL files are created by Windows Media Center on the same PC using the same TV card.
Any explanation as to why some play and others don't would be appreciated. File size is comparable between working and non-working files.

Thanks
Ian

Re: Samsung .WTV no sound

wtv can't be played natively by the Samsung, so you'll have to transcode. Both your examples set transcoding to mpeg2video anyway.
