serviio no device detected wired connection

Hey,

Hoping someone can help me. This problem is making me pull my hair out.
I have been through loads of post on this forum to try fix my problem, but nothing has worked yet...

So I bought a new TV - SAMSUNG ue37es6300. pretty nice tv but I mainly wanted it to stream from my server.

I have been able to connect to serviio when the tv is wirelessly connected.
However when its wireless it tends to cut out during playback - I am yet to try : serviio.advertisementDuration (but I will if no one can help)
Using ethernet seems like a good idea. the router is pretty much next to the tv...

So server : 192.168.1.100
tv : 192.168.1.110
both netmask : 255.255.255.0
both gw : 192.168.1.1 (this is the correct router ip)

serviio cant see the tv. in the status window nothing.

I have tried installing samsungs shocking allshare application - it also cant see the tv.
As soon as I fire up my laptop with serviio/allshare wirelessly - bingo the tv can see it and everything works (again cuts out though).

I then plug a network cable into a working laptop and its gone. Cant see it.

This to me must be a router setting?
I have turned UPnP on and off - no diff
I have turned QoS on and off - no diff

ANY help would be great.

thanks in advance,

sounds like a router issue to me, what kind of router do you have?

This seems to be a trend as of late with ISP provided routers, for some reason they tend to default to a config that isolates the clients from each other. I am not sure why they think this is a good idea but it causes tons of headaches with folks trying to network their pc's together.

Its an amazing huawei talktalk one.

I'm about to move house and get cable, so its only temp - but I want to ensure it works in case its the TV.

Any ideas if I can change something to make it work?

What I dont understand is why I can wirelessly see the tv.
ie tv = wireless / pc = wired = works
tv = wired / pc = wireless = works

tv = wired / pc wired = not work

why would they separate people on the same media type.

I couldn't tell you why but I have seen this behavior before with ISP provided equipment.
Here are two possible solutions.

you can try calling your ISP for support and tell them you have two pc's that can't see each other, maybe they can help you turn off the "feature"

alternatively if you have an extra switch or your own router.. you can try hanging that off your ISP's router and plugging your TV and serviio PC into that and see if it works. that should tell you for sure if it's a problem with the router.

I highly doubt it's an issue with the TV config

Thats what I thought too, but you never know.

I have a switch, i will try that.

I'm guessing this wont work though, as it seems the broadcast messages arent being passed to the tv from the pc.

if anyone else has any ideas please shout.

thanks,

if you have just a regular switch then it should work fine, switches will always pass all broadcast packets to all ports.

Updating the router firmware has done the trick.

As soon as the new firmware loaded serviio popped up in allshare.

thanks for the help!

fyi anyone who uses the talktalk updater - it wont work, you have to re set up everything, so take a note of your username and password before you start.
