Hi,

both "Enable subtitles" and "Enable extraction of subtitles embedded" are checked but my TV does not display any embedded subtitles (external .SRT subtitles display fine tough). Any ideas how to make this work?

Could you enable detailed logging ?
Could you provide details about your file (see signature links) ?

@Johnnyslt: mkv are delivered in native format. What is your serviio console settings for subtitles ?

Did you enter preferred languages in the console? Without it it won't pick any embedded subs.

How long does this take?

Hi guys

I'm in the exact situation as Johnnyslt, I'm using serviio 1.2 under Ubuntu 12.04 and have the same problem with rum/ro subtitles embedded in all my movies on a D-series. I'm very excited to this new features for the subtitles and can't wait to see them working. How can I help so that we can get to the bottom of this? Should I go thru the same process as Johnnyslt?

This is probably the same problem: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=9470

I saw this problem during beta testing, but I don't know why ffmpeg extraction was too long...

@Johnnyslt, could you compare extract time with the lastest Zip proposition ?
ffmpeg.exe -i "D:\Asterix.and.Obelix.God.Save.Britannia.2012.BluRay.1080p.x264-xHD\Asterix.and.Obelix.God.Save.Britannia.2012.BluRay.1080p.x264-xHD.mkv" -y -an -vn -map 0:2 -c:s copy -f raw d:\testsubs.sub

That's fine, I gave you a bad command line... I was able to reporoduce the delays in extracting subs, but not sure I can do anything to fix it, especially on very large files.

hello!
i have the same issue with srt incorporated in mkv.
i have enabled "subtitles" and "extract subtitles", but it dont work.

i got a samsung c6000 and serviio is running on win XP.
if i play external sub (tv reproduce it natively) and i enable the "incorporation" serviio print the sub in video (double sub on screen), so that feature run (i dont need it but is ok).

what can i do to help u to solve the mkv issue?

thanks a lot

Do you mean you select enable Burning in and you're seeing both, the burned in and text subtitles at the same time? If yes, it's a bug.

For the embedded subs, it seems it's dependent on the mkv file, if FFmpeg can extract the subtitle file from it quickly, it'll work, otherwise not. No idea how to fix it atm.

Dependent on the mkv file, probably... and the path too, with a remote path the extraction process was too slow too, but that could be two different problem.
( With mkvtoolnix tools, I also had a different extraction time between local and remote path)

I just used ffmpeg (1.1.3) from a terminal (under Ubuntu 12.04 x64) to extract a srt from The.Hobbit.An.Unexpected.Journey.2012.720p.BluRay.x264 which has time=02:39:29.20, on a SSD SATA3 and took real=0m40.711s. How long is serviio waiting for extraction before starting streaming?

Currently there is 30 sec timeout. But for example Samsungs start streaming before it gets the extracted subtitle (if it takes a long time), causing the subs to be missing. I thikn this will have to stay as experimental functionality, until FFMpeg implement burning it embedded subtitles (and even them it'll only work proerly with hardsubs, not softsubs - which the Samsungs would support without reencoding).

Is someone here a member of the FFmpeg user mailinglist? Maybe there is some trick to make it faster (e.g. if the subs are stored at the beginning of the file, we would not have to remux the whole file)

Re: v1.2 - does not display .MKV embedded subtitles on C-ser

Hopefully you will find something to make it work right.
