Hi,
im a new user to serviio and im currently playing from my laptop to sony smart TV.
I play files from a 2TB HDD which is almost full

All my files dont show up on TV right away, i have to wait for it to search for files. I thought after unplugging, next time it would just search for new files.
But it doesnt, they are all wiped on TV and it searches the lot again which takes time.

Is there a way to stop it doing this?

Thanks

On the issue of unplugging: Short of never unplugging , no not at this stage. See: viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12572.

I occasionally have the same problem when Windows arbitrarily decides to re-assign a different drive letter to my USB attached drive (even though I tell it to use a specific one, Windows decides its will is stronger than mine and overrides me).

On the issue of files not showing up straight away: if you are a Windows user, I wrote a tool to actively monitor changes to your hard drive and refresh the library when a change is detected: see viewtopic.php?f=17&t=12136. It will not be straight away (as you have to wait to ensure all disk changes in the queue get processed) but it will generally detect the change and refresh the library faster than the polling method. I did try and code around removable drives as well but this had a few issues (it would be best done within Serviio itself) so I gave up on it for the last release of my tool (but will likely give it another go at some stage).

Sorry, remiss of me - there is a way to work around your problem - in your library, either (In Serviio Console, Library tab):

  • Turn off "Keep Library automatic updated". When making changes to any files/folders in your library, you will need to manually refresh the library by pressing the "Force Refresh" button (of course you would only do so after confirming that your removable drive was attached to avoid it being removed from the library); or
  • Turn off "Scan for File Additions or Updates" for shared folders on your removable drive. This way you could still scan other (non removable) drives. If you then make a change to files/folders on your removable drive, you would then turn this back on (after confirming the drive is attached), do a Forced Refresh, and then turn off again after the refresh is fully complete.
The first option is easier, but both options are a work-around. Remember when making any changes in Serviio Console to press Save.
