Sony Blu Ray BDP-S6200 Freezes 5-15 seconds MKV File

Hi Serviio Support,

I've been experiencing freezes playing mkv, mp4, avi files 5-15 seconds of opening the shortcut from the Sony Blu Ray BDP-S6200 (just purchased today brand new). Confirmed the ip address pings continuously from the Media Computer hosting Serviio.

I'm not sure where else to look for troubleshooting this issue.

Any help is much appreciated.

I had this problem with a few of my BD rips. It was caused by issues with the HD audio and something MakeMKV did during the rip. At first, I was just ripping them without the HD audio track, but I just found a different ripping product called MovieRescuer (http://www.videohelp.com/tools/MovieRescuer) that keeps a Blu Ray movie in M2TS format. The Sony will play this without transcoding, although it should play the MKV that way as well. It also allows the Sony to toggle the captions tracks, which the MKV wouldn't display.

Of course, it the videos causing you a problem are not BD rips, then this answer doesn't help...

Thank you atc98092!!! We will try that method for ripping using the Movie Rescuer M2TS format. As for our other Blu Ray backups, we have hundreds of mkv files. Could we still convert the mkv files to the m2ts format without loosing quality or do we rip it from the Blu Ray?

Thanks again for your help!!

There are ways to transmux a video from one container to another without changing the contained video or audio, but I've never looked into it much.

Also, now that I've re-ripped a number of BDs with Movie Rescuer, I'm having a freeze problem with many of them. There's no consistency when the movie pauses, but it doesn't freeze the player. I just hit stop and play, and it resumes where it paused. Don't know if it's a ripping issue or a player issue. Also, MakeMKV just released a new version yesterday, and it has a handful of bug fixes related to HD audio. Maybe that takes care of the issue I was having before.

Always something...

atc98092...I hear ya on the always something.....

We came up with a fix. The Sony Playstation 3 works beautifully with Serviio. Not sure why this is the case. We noticed there were no hiccups on any of the mkv files. I guess the PS3 has better compatibility towards mkv than a stand alone Sony Blu Ray player.

Nope :-) The PS3 cannot play MKV files. Serviio transcodes them, remuxing the video into an mpeg-ts container (and possibly transcoding the audio). What happens if you assign the BluRay player the PS3 Serviio profile as a test?

DA, I'll give that a try this evening. I think they are fine if they are transcoded for my Roku and Panasonic, but of course that's not transmuxing. :D More experimenting!

If you select the Sony BDP-Sx70/SMP-N100 profile it will force MKV files to be transcoded - so you won't have to change your collection of files. However, you will lose subtitles and alternate audio tracks.

I apologize but the Sony Blu Ray BDP-S6200 does work. The old blue ray player was still hooked up. The reason I did not know....I was remoted into the pc and working on this issue from another state. I was helping try to see what was the issue. This was working on the ps3 but half way through a movie, an error appeared stating mkv can not be viewed. Seems like a root kit on Sony part since it was working. Thank you both of you for your help.
