Sony KDL-40EX503 Picture Format

I've just installed Serviio and it seems to work ok apart from the aspect ratio of avi files.

avi files that should play in 16:9 format have black bands top and bottom (14:9 format?)
avi files that should play in 4:3 format play in 16:9 format
mkv files play fine

Is there an easy solution to this (not resorting to try and force the TV to display in a different format)?

I had exactly the same problem with Wild Media Server and the solution there was to adjust one of the transcoding settings to aspect=4:3 and that solved the problem.

I know this problem and I would also find a solution: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=425&p=8572&hilit=mencoder#p8572

Could you provide "ffmpeg -i" of your three sample files to know exactly there aspect ratio?

Hello AndyMe,

How did you install Serviio on your computer?
I have a PC with Vista and have installed Serviio, but my Sony Bravia KDL -40EX503 can´t find any server.
I added a new device on the computers Serviio consol and gave it the name Bravia KDL -40EX503, the same name as for the Renderer on the TV. I also gave it the IP from found on the TV. When I later restarted the PC I found a green dot infront of a device KDL -40EX503 with the profile Sony Bravia TV. I think that means that Serviio recognize the TV but still no server is to be seen on the tv. What can be wrong?
Please give a shor but working instruction on how you got it working.

nad

If you have a software firewall on your PC have you allowed it to accept incoming connections from your TV?

Other than that mine just worked straight away.

Hi AndyMe,
I have Comodo Internet Security, but I turned it off and got the same result. On the TV , where should I see the videos or the pictures. Should they, the videos, show up under video like all the other internet videos?
Do you have any other idea to get the things working? Could it be the router. It´s an old Netgear connected to the TV by cable and with the PC by wireless.

Regards

In the status you should see:

Green Dot IP Address KDL-40EX503 Sony Bravia TV

Press the Internet Video button on your TV remote.

You should see, amongst other things, Pictures, Videos, Music. Serviio should appear in these.

Does iPlayer or any of the other services provided on the TV work? If yes then your network connection is good. If no, then maybe you need to make some changes to that first.

I'm sorry I am unable to hep any further with this.

Hi AndyMe,
I can now tell you that it all works well. The only problem was that I did not know that Windows Firewall was running in the background together with Comodo. I stopped Windows Firewall and I could see both movies and pictures from my computer after I in Comodo had opened recommended ports for TCP 1900 and for UDP 8895.
It is amazing, I can see videos in .flv in mp4, and in mkw.
I tried also different formats it all worked, 640x360, 720x576 and 1028x720.
Serviio seems to be perfect for Sony.

Thank you for the help you gave me. At least it showed me that I was on the right way.
