.mkv videos freezing on Sony 2014 KDL-50W685A

As the title describes, videos play fine but regulary freeze. This can last for lets say 30s and then the video starts to play again. Sometimes the video won't start playing again. Then when I rewind, hit play again the video plays fine again for a few minutes before freezing again. I don't think there is something wrong with the format of the videos. I use handbrake for converting. When I put the movie on an external hard disk and plug it into my TV's usb port, the video plays fine without freezing!
The profile I use is standard 'Sony Bravia tv (2013/14)'

I read a few topics on this forum about other freezing problems, but most of them are with Blu Ray players. I stream directly from my PC to my TV (KDL-50W685A) over a wired ethernet connection. Is there some way I can log the playing sequence, or scope the data transfer between PC and TV?
When I play the same movies on an older Sony TV (KDL 37EX720 from 2011) they play fine without freezing! However I use transcoding in this case...

Thank you for your time and help.

You might be looking at another bitrate issue here. Sony devices are fine with overall (i.e. audio plus video) bitrates of up to about 17,000 kbps over the network. If a stream exceeds that value at some point, it might hang/stutter over the network while the very same file plays fine from a directly attached storage.

Assuming the video doesn't get transcoded, I suggest you run the file in question through Bitrate Viewer and see what its peak bitrate is.

Re: .mkv videos freezing on Sony 2014 KDL-50W685A

I started using a USB hard disk to watch my movies because the freezing via serviio was getting unbearable...

I'm trying with serviio again, thinking that V1.6.1 perhaps was a bit better, but no succes.
When I play a video (that plays fine via USB) via serviio on my Sony Bravia TV, it sometimes (not all the time...) freezes for 10-15s and then plays again for 20-25s before freezing again.
I tried to use the Generic DNLA profile instead of Sony Bravia TV 2013/2014 but no difference.

I analyzed the bitrate of the video:

As Lowlander said, the bitrate sometimes has peak values of 25000+ kbps, could this really be the cause of the freezes?
Is there some way I can scope the bitrate of the video, or other data from serviio?
I tried the windows task manager to view my processor/memory/network load, but that doesn't seem to be related to the freezes.

Re: .mkv videos freezing on Sony 2014 KDL-50W685A

I have a video that has an average bitrate of +-2500kbps, an a peak value of 12000kbps but still the video freezes. The freezing happens everey 25-30 seconde... Just fast forwarding once and the video cotinues to play for 25-30s. I watched the second part of the video the next day, and the video didn't freeze once!

SO I don't think it always has to do something with bitrate.. Is there anyway I can scope the data that is processed by serviio?

The fact that after fully transcoded file played the next day works without the stutter is symptomatic of CPU/memory bottleneck when transcoding.

Post MediaInfo details for the file and we can see why it is transcoded (and perhaps remove it). As a test, turn Transcoding off in serviio Console and see if that works.
