[SOLVED] Sony BDP-S370 not found by any computer

PostPosted: Tue Mar 29, 2011 10:37 pm
by Drinky
I switched from serviio 0.5 to 0.5.1 and updated the firmware of my Sony BDP and now the TV won't find any new servers. I've had it working on 2 computers before, one wired and one wireless, but now nothing. Serviio servers aren't found by the device, I've set bound IP, opened ports TCP 8895 and UDP on the router and firewall and still nothing. When I hit the "refresh" button serviio doesn't find any device(it did find many before).

Switching back to 0.5 doesn't fix the problem either, and the same with updating to 0.5.2.

Here's the log file.

The easiest way to troubleshoot this kind of network problem is to completely disable any personal firewall(s) you may have on your PC - Windows Firewall, ZoneAlarm etc. Then check if it works. If it does, then work from there and try to create an exception for Serviio etc.

Also check that your Sony BDP has network access by trying to watch a YouTube clip on it.

I have done both already and still nothing, which is very weird.

Check the Network menu of your Sony BDP, clear all server list. Also fix IP and Mask address of your BDP in same menu. And reboot the BDP.
Same on Serviio console, remove all IP address list and refresh.

Already done that as well, fixed IP doesn't work, clearing list doesn't work, resetting to factory settings doesn't work :?

Is 192.168.2.2 the IP of your PC?

Yup

Also, on one PC the servioservice stops after a few seconds, on the other one it doesn't. Enabling it manually doesn't work either. However, the PC on which the serviioservice works correctly doesn't seem to find anything as well. Both PC's have fixed IP's.

Guess I've found the problem

http://www.sony-europe.com/discussions/message/634878

seems that the new firmware update is indeed the culprit as I suspected. I'll be bringing it back to the store tomorrow for a swap and won't upgrade the firmware.

Tried installing the older M03.R.695 firmware manually but the device won't accept it, so yeah, the only option is to return it for an exchange. Pretty ridiculous if you ask me, Sony messed up here bigtime

edit: and by reading that topic, it seems that it happens on some s370's, while on others it's just fine as it was before, that's odd. Maybe a difference in the EU and US firmware? I have a EU one by the way.

Strange - when did you update? It's been a couple of days since I used mine but I'm pretty sure I'm on the latest. Crazy that it wouldn't have been carefully tested by Sony, and it's such a difficult thing to prove when trying to get a unit replaced.

Do you try a clean uninstall of Serviio (with CCleaner tool) ?

Do you find your BDP with INTEL TOOLS ?

I did the update in the beginning of March, hadn't had a use for DLNA up untill a few days ago where I had a movie exceeding the 4GB fat32 file limit, tried DLNA but no servers came up. I've brought it to the shop for repairs, they said that they couldn't exchange me a new one because they first have to see what sony does(the rep didn't have a clue what DLNA, or Firmware was  ). Let's see what Sony makes of this, but I'm guessing I'll just get it back with the message that "everything is ok" and have to bring it in again.

Could take up to 21 working days

Yeah I've tried clean installs, can't test with Intel tools now because it's at the store.

Got the player back today. At first I only saw a note referring to the manual on how to use DLNA and I was pissed thinking they hadn't done squat about it. However, I connected it and ran the DLNA server and it worked so they've seem to have fixed it. Really suprised me to say the least.

Guess you can close it, problem solved.
