Re: PlayStation 4 Profile - Testing Required

Sorry Folks,
This profile is still not fully functional (or something else is going on).
I added the code to profiles, saved, closed serviio console, restarted the service, restarted the console. Lo, Serviio console auto-detected the PS4! So I was hopeful, however, my FLAC file folders still show "no media available".

The complete log file is too long to post, but things seem mostly to work out with a few exceptions. Relevant entries include:
  Code:

I get some warning messages which I think are about Serviio being unable to do something, not about the PS4. (If that is true, why no ALAC support? It's open source.) And an info message about it finding the PS4.

Are there any other diagnostic files that I can post to help?

Re: PlayStation 4 Profile - Testing Required

Yes, its something else going on... not necessarily related to the profile.
Your files are not being added to the library (so won't appear on the PS4 or on any other device - check this with MediaBrowser) for various reasons:

  • Unknown video or unknown bit rate. Are you using the standard ffmpeg that was distributed with Serviio or have you compile your own? Check MediaInfo/ffmpeg -i for these files and see what is non-standard;
  • ALAC is not yet supported. Scheduled for release 1.7 - see viewtopic.php?f=7&t=21377

Thanks DenyAll,

Actually the change did not help on my same previous files.
I posted the DEBUG log here in case it may help:

Re: PlayStation 4 Profile - Testing Required

This profile has now been released with Serviio version 1.6.

I think there is may still be some work to do, particularly on sub-title support and the potential use of the AVI mime spoofing, so please continue to use this topic for any suggested improvements.

Re: PlayStation 4 Profile - Testing Required

Was wondering if the "broken pipe" errors in my pastebin log would not be due to a chunck size issue, like for former Sony BDP-S products.
Indeed reading through BDP-S profile, it seems some producst may require particular chunk sizes...
I'm not expert-enough to debug this further I'm afraid...

Sample file is available from NASA archives there I think

Thanks.

Re: PlayStation 4 Profile - Testing Required

Sorry mpi, I've lost track of what the issue is. I thought we were looking at spoofing the mime-type (which I have given up on, yes it works for some AVI's but there isn't anything common on the AVI's it works for that Serviio can use to match on).

How is the "broken pipe" error in the log manifesting itself as an error when playing video's?

Re: PlayStation 4 Profile - Testing Required

after a few seconds of spinning circle the dialog shows up with "unreadable media" (translated as my interface is not in english).
You may want to try with the files mentioned in my previous post.
I have same with many other .avi

EDIT:
it seems DIVX encoded media fail.
XVID seem OK in most cases

Re: PlayStation 4 Profile - Testing Required

I'll try one of the Apollo movies tonight but they are a .mov (mp4) file, not an AVI.

it seems DIVX encoded media fail. XVID seem OK in most cases
Do you have transcoding on or off?
Are you using the MediaFormatProfile statements to re-map mime types? I did this and it didn't work consistently. If it worked for all XVid files then we could use this to play Xvid natively... but while it doesnt work for some XVid files then unfortunately we're forced to transcode them all.

Re: PlayStation 4 Profile - Testing Required

I tried the first file from the NASA site. This file is a .mov encoded with quicktime (major brand ="qt" when in ffmpeg -i). It does not play natively on my PS4 (maybe a Sony vs Apple thing ;) )

I got it to play by transcoding it. To do so you need to add the following line (in red) above the existing line shown:

    <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" ftypNotIn="avc1,iso2,isom,m4v,mp41,mp42" />
    <Matches container="*" vCodec="h263" />
This will now transcode all mp4 container types (including .mp4, .m4v, .mov files) except than those with a major brand of "avc1,iso2,isom,m4v,mp41,mp42" (these will be played natively. This is the majority of mp4 files excluding Quicktime files). Hence it transcodes your NASA file (major brand type = "qt" ).

This needs to be tested by everyone still monitoring this topic, as:

  • The ftypNotIn statement works in the negative (ie. if not in this list, it will be transcoded). As such we could be transcoding brands that could otherwise be played natively (a complete list is here: http://www.ftyps.com/#2 - as you can see its extensive). I have only included the main stream brands (I think I have them all) on the assumption that they will play natively. We need to test to see whether each of these brands does play natively and conversely, whether any brands are being unnecessarily transcoded;
  • I am excluding all Quicktime files on the basis of this one sample. Has anyone come across qt files that play natively
I will await any feedback before adding this to to the main profile in the OP.

Re: PlayStation 4 Profile - Testing Required

Oh, ok - without transcoding the only tool you have at your disposal is to try spoofing the mime type like you did with xvid files. Try mapping the mime type video/quicktime to another type (either matroska or one of the mp4 variants).

I've used Serviio 1.6 for a while now and below are some examples of files that doesn't play.

This file, a 1080p file from a RX100 IV, plays a half the speed. This is odd as some other files using the same settings, i.e. XAVC 1080p at 60fps, works fine.

Not the best approach as this will remux all MP4 files with h264, which should in the main be playable natively by the PS3. Better that you refine it to be:
    <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" aCodec="lpcm" />
I think this issue is likely to be specific to your camera (this often happens) so may not be appropriate to add it to the standard PS3 profile.

----------------
I have attached a rather reworked profile. I have incorporated all the changes above, plus have added some of my own (including some significant changes to the way AVI's are handled. The PS4 supports some AVI's). I will test it tonight, but if you also wish to do so would be appreciated.

I did btw try out the PS3-profile mp4 change above, and it worked fine on the file mentioned. However, it didn't work on this other mp4 file (with other audio, from a Nexus phone):

  Code:
General
Complete name                            : H:\TEST.mp4
Format                                   : MPEG-4
Format profile                           : 3GPP Media Release 4

Re: PlayStation 4 Profile - Testing Required

chris-red wrote:Hi, I came on here looking for a fix for the PS4 player so I will also test this.

My Issues where...

Doesn't detect certain media (no playable files)
Doesn't display time stamp and will not fast forward (or reverse)

The PS3 didn't have either of these issues with the same files.

I had been running Serviio v 1.5.2. I decided to upgrade to 1.6.1, unbeknownst to me, the PS4 had just upgraded to firmware 3.50. All of a sudden, after both upgrades, about 10% of my files were playable. I was having the same problems as the person above. Very few MP4 files would play and none of the AVI or MKV files I tried would play. It would very quickly say "Cannot Play Media" whereas the AVI & MKV files would try but no time stamp of screenshot would show. I tried other profiles other than the Playstation 4 profile, including the Generic, nothing worked.

I'm running Windows 7, I did a system restore and reinstalled Serviio v1.5.2. It loaded the PS4 and assigned it to the Generic Profile and most of my video files are playable again, just as they are before I updated to 1.6.1.

I'm not a computer novice but finding the details many of you need is beyond my skill set thru windows. If there is anything I can do to supply information needed to fix this, let me know and tell me where to find the information needed in Windows. Thanks.

Strange - if you used the Generic Profile it should have been the same with either 1.5.2 or 1.6.1. Having said that, what you should do is manually assign the PS4 Profile to the PS4 IP address on the Status tab of Serviio Console when you upgrade to 1.6.1.

I did not notice any difference after upgrading the PS4 to 3.50. However, I was running 1.6.1 prior to the PS4 3.50 update.
