Which Sony profile is Serviio using?

Please provide media info for a video that plays and one that doesn't see the link in my sig for instructions on getting that data.

OK, I can't read French, but I can at least compare the two, and from what I can see they are almost identical. The resolution is the only thing that jumps out at me, but that itself shouldn't be an issue. I'm a little surprised that your Sony will play XVID video, as the only info I could find online says it only supports AVCHD or MPEG2 video codecs. So that's H.264 or H.262, and yours is H.263.

Out of curiosity, will both files play correctly on your computer? Perhaps there's a flaw in the one that won't play. It wouldn't be the first time a file downloaded from the Internet didn't work correctly.

Yes, all files play correctly on my computer (not only the 2 files I sent u). But almost files play only sound and no picture with Serviio on my TV. When I use Tversity Media Server 3.8 Free all files play correctly. :roll:

OK, we're going to need some advice from Zip or perhaps DenyAll. There's something that isn't quite right between the two, but I'm not seeing it.

First step - try repacking the file, that often works for AVI's. From the command line run:

    "C:\Program Files\Serviio\lib\ffmpeg.exe" -i "C:\Users\UserPC\Videos\Crazy Ex Girlfriend S3 Complet\Crazy.Ex-Girlfriend.S03E01.FRENCH.WEBRip.XviD.avi" -c copy -map 0 "C:\Users\UserPC\Videos\Crazy Ex Girlfriend S3 Complet\newfile.avi"
and test the resultant newfile.avi. Repacking (remuxing) is a non-destructive process (no loss of video or audio quality) but can fix errors in the file container.

Also let us know what profile is being assigned to your TV (in Serviio Console on the Status tab)

I repacked the file, but still sound but no picture.

Status is :

192.168.0.11 KDL-60EX700 Sony Bravia TV (2010) Modifier
192.168.0.12 Unrecognized device Generic DLNA profile Modifier
192.168.0.2 Sagemcom STB Generic DLNA profile

Round 2: Try editing the profile:

  • Edit C:\Program Files\Serviio\config\profiles.xml with your favourite text editor (I use Notepad++ for this as it is syntax aware)
  • Find the Sony Bravia TV (2010) profile
  • Add the line
    <Matches container="*" vCodec="h263" />
    just below the line
    <Matches container="avi" vCodec="msmpeg4" />
  • Save the file
  • Restart your PC
If that doesn't work do the same steps as above but this time replace the three lines
  Code:
<Matches container="avi" vCodec="mpeg4" />
<Matches container="avi" vCodec="msmpeg4" />
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h263" />
with the single line <Matches container="avi" />.

Let me know what one, if any, works

Could you explain me how to do this exactly ? I open C:\Program Files\Serviio\config\profiles.xml using Windows tab+R and I access to a Internet Explorer screen with all informations, but I cant add the line you tell me....
How can I do ? Sorry, I'm just a user and not a programer.... Thx for your help:)

You can't edit in IE. You have to use a text editor. He suggested (and I agree) using a freeware product called Notepad ++ https://notepad-plus-plus.org/

Thx for your explanations ; I used Notepad++ and I made the 2 changes, but no one of them works.

I still have sound but no picture (black screen).

Did you restart your PC after making the changes?

Yes, I saved after each change and restart PC. Problem is still similar.

Ok unexpected. The second change should transcode all AVI files.

Lets make sure it is transcoding - while playing the file type http://localhost:23423/rest/playback-status into the browser on the PC that Serviio is on. When it returns, find your playing item and note the <itemTranscoded> field - true is transcoded, false is not.

The result is false :roll:

OK, assuming you still have the changes to the profile, then something is wrong. It should be transcoding the file (the line <Matches container="avi" /> will force transcoding of all AVI files). Please confirm:

  • The profile that is assigned to the TV (Serviio Console, Status tab) - should be the Sony Bravia TV (2010)profile
  • Ensure Transcoding is on (Serviio Console, Delivery, Transcoding tab)
  • Ensure Enable burned-in subtitles is off (Serviio Console, Delivery, Subtitles tab)

Yes I confirm the 3 points : Sony Bravia TV, transcoding on and burned-in subtitles off.

I’m stumped - if it’s using the 2010 profile and you had the modifications still in, Serviio should transcode the avi file. Not sure why it’s not doing it.

So last go at it, please provide a copy of your detailed log file when playing the file, and also a ffmpeg -I of the file.
