Sony KD50x77L

I have been using Serviio for some years now with a Sony KDL32EX700 Tv and haven't had any major issues.
Recently I got a new Sony KD50x77L Android TV and cannot get Serviio on this TV. I updated to latest Serviio version and still not recognised. I can ping the TV from the server so I don't believe it's a network problem as the only thing changed is the TV.
Does anyone know if I need to install anything on this new TV before it can see the Serviio server?

Many thanks for any assistance.

Re: Sony KD50x77L

Not all new TVs support DLNA servers. I've seen some Vizio TVs that simply don't have the support. I have no Sony products other than some old BD players, so I have no idea if they still support DLNA. That said, I did a quick search for that model number and it appears it's supposed to still support DLNA.

Did the old TV use wired or WiFi to connect to your network? Does the new TV connect the same way? This sounds like a WiFi security setting might be blocking the TV from seeing the Serviio computer. An update to your router might have turned that security setting on when it had been off previously.

Re: Sony KD50x77L

Thanks for your reply.

I'm using ethernet connections for both the old as well as the new TVs. I have turned off wifi on the new one.
I managed to get Plex working on the new TV so I guess it must be DLNA compatible but I had to install the Plex app on the TV before I could access my media on the Plex server on the PC.

I thought I may need to do the same to access Serviio but there is no app for the TV.

I can't find anything on the web related to the problem I'm having so maybe I'm the only one trying to use Serviio with these new TVs! Surely not
Will keep trying.

Thanks again for your trouble.

Re: Sony KD50x77L

Plex doesn't use DLNA for their dedicated client, so whatever is blocking your TV from seeing Serviio isn't doing the same for the Plex app. So that really does pinpoint the problem being something on your PC blocking Serviio.

Re: Sony KD50x77L

I called Sony support today and was told that the new TVs do not support the DLNA format, unlike the older models.
So I guess I'll have to use Plex to access my media while using this TV, unless there is some sort of Serviio client sw?

Re: Sony KD50x77L

No, Serviio has never created apps for different platforms. The one exception is ServiiGo, which is for the Android OS. But even that was written by a third party, not the Serviio developer. ServiiGo might work on an Android TV OS, but I've never tried it on my Shield players, as they are all local on the network and Kodi does just fine for a player. Come to think of it, you might be able to install Kodi or one of the other players on your Sony Android TV, and that would work with Serviio. Just off the top of my head, there's Kodi, MrMC and VLC that all work with DLNA servers. VLC is the easiest to set up and use, but has the worst user interface.

Re: Sony KD50x77L

Installed VLC and I agree, didn't like the interface and for some reason it didn't get all the media.
I'll give Kodi a try.
Thanks
