Serviio

Hi there, My Blu-ray machine is a Sony BDP-S470. And the Computer is a Dell. OS = Windows XP.

I’ve recently downloaded the Serviio program after recommendation from the Sony website. It all works fine the first time and I was able to stream my media contents. Then the next day, when I switch both blu-ray and computer back on, it doesn’t work. When I click the Serviio icon on the menu on the bluray, it says ‘Cannot Start Server’.

The Serviio icon on the bottom right hand tray says it is running. (The other strange thing is if I go Exit Serviio and then try to reopen it by clicking the Serviio Console icon, it says cannot run the program. And the only way to make it work again is to restart the computer. What’s up with that??)

I tried going to your Forum but couldn’t find an answer that I can follow or understand - not much of a computer guy here sadly (I checked my Java and it is on version 6 update 26 and not on java 7). It seems the only way I can make it to work again is to uninstall and reinstall and then it would work – until I switch off and switch back on and I got the same error messages again like the above.

So you can imagine I’m getting quite frustrated and don’t want to uninstall and reinstall every time. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if you need any info or log info, please let me know.

It seems that at every power off/on switch, your configuration has changed.
Did you fix all your devices IP-address (Router, PC with serviio, TV, BDR, etc) ?

Probably not. How do i check that or do that? Bound IP address, by any chance?
(As I confessed before, not the most knowledgeable when it comes to the technical side of things here.)

For Sony BDP-S470:
Are you hard wired or Wifi?
(supposed wired), on Xbar Sony Menu (Home), select Setup-> Network Settings -> Internet Settings -> Wired Setup
and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the setup.

For your PC:
What is your PC OS system, if windows click to Start -> Execute : type cmd
Then on windows terminal type "ipconfig /all"

For your Router:
IP address must be something like 192.168.1.1, on Browser (Internet Explorer/Firefox) enter the router IP address : 192.168.1.1, you may access to the router manager.

OS is windows XP. And I got my IP address via the ipconfig - thing is on the console, the IP address on the renderer profile next to the name of the BD player is almost the same as my computer's IP address except for the last digit. So instead of .0.1 which is the correct IP address, it is .0.6. But I cant seem to change it on the console. Any suggestions?

Sorry to be so dumb on this as im really green on this and thanks for the help so far.

And one more very annoying thing is: the VUZE works fine and is connected up between the BD player and the PC. So something must be working - just not for the server for Serviio. Unfortunately the media contents I wanna play isnt on VUZE.
