Sony SMP-N200 Profile?

PostPosted: Wed Nov 23, 2011 6:29 am

I am having transcoding problems and server disconnects. I would like to know if anyone here has a profile they could submit for the Sony SMP-N200? I have searched the forums here for my device and it seems there is no information regarding the Sony SMP-N200, only the older SMP-N100. I've tried using the older profile and have the above problems with it.

If someone here could provide a profile for this device, I would be grateful as I'm sure others would too!

Can you submit what the SMP-N200 will play. See signature on how.

What is your network installation?

No profile for the moment, first try with "Generic Profile" then try with "Sony BDP" profile.

Thanks for the quick replies guys!

Illico: I have a wireless connection. My router is set to accept 802.11-N only, signal strength is 100%, WPA2-PSK protected, DNS settings: Auto, and when I did my setup on the SMP-N200, I used the "auto" config for my ip address, so no static ip.

Anyone who has a Sony Network Media Player is told to get Serviio for the best performance. I hope there is a profile for the SMP-N200 soon, as Windows Media Player is pretty horrible.

wireless connection is not the best solution (connection stability, bitrate, etc).
Static IP is better, but if that's works...

Sony BDP is probably a good start, but we need users to help provide this specific profile, If you want to contribute...no problem we could help you.

If you are using a wireless connection. I would recommend running this tool if you have any close neighbors. Cause if multiple routers on same channel they have to share the timesplices.

Hey zip,

Well, I guess as you already know, Sony UK. I watched a video on youtube "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BwtBQJadBL8 where Sony recommended you guys, and also just looking around the net, tons of different posts about both the older version Sony Network Media Player SMP-N100, and the newer one I have, SMP-N200. Querying for either of those players on Google and "DLNA software" returns mostly users claiming it's the only software that works properly with their SMP, even in some posts going so far as to say they have tried every other piece of DLNA software in combination with their SMP and without Serviio, the DLNA function of the Sony is completely useless. I also have tried a multitude of DLNA software and can agree that Serviio seems to work better with the SMP-N200 Sony offers, transcoding videos that wouldn't play otherwise with regular Windows Media Player's server. Unfortunately, I witnessed this and cannot figure out which profile I was in that this was accomplished. Furthermore, I realize it's not the default one, b/c apparently no transcoding takes place with that one, unless I was using an earlier version downloaded from the site that could do this?

Anyway, if I had the "tech knowledge" and the time, I'd love to help create a profile for this player...I wish I had either. I just know there would be tons of happy people finding this software with the profile already ready to go, I for one would jump for joy! I suppose the more default profiles listed from the start would bring tons more to using this great software.

I guess it was worth a shot asking on here, as I know the software supports the first generation of the device in question by default. I will wait, cross my fingers, and hope a profile might be created by another owner of this device that has more tech knowledge than I, or a sympathetic techie! :D

Cheers guys!

Older thread, I know, but I have successfully used an SMP-N200 with the N100 profile with Servio 0.6.0.1

Once I got past the transcoder using up all the disk space in my virtual Linux/CENTOS machine (VirtualBox), it runs perfect. Fast-forward works, etc.

A story for another thread is that I am now running Serviio under Solaris 10 x64, and it's FAST.

I have yet to really play around with other profiles, but the N100 worked right away. I am using static IP, wired network.

Thanks for that feedback, on the next version Sony SMP and BDP profiles will be merged.Hoping that there is no regression.

My SMP-N200 reports the same thing as what's in the database for the Sony BD Player.

A UNIX "diff" between my SMP-N200 or the BD Player database entry, and the SMP-N200 in the database shows:
