KDL-HX925 - Jpegs won't be shown

Hi folks.

My first post.

I just bought a new TV - a KDE HX 925.

I already made video streaming/transcoding work with Serviio. Great stuff.

My problem is now that I cannot open any images on the TV even though the folders with the jpegs inside are accesable and the thumbnails are also shown.

I also own a (150$) Sony BDP. That one opens all the images via Serviio without any problems.

Now I'm not sure if it is the DLNA server respectively the profile for my TV set (2011 profile) or the TV which is causing the trouble.

Any help or hints would be appreciated.

Cheers

To resume:
- KDE HX 925 : jpegs can be browsed with thumbnails shown but can't be opened.
- Sony BDP : jpegs can be opened without problems.
What is the message on the Bravia TV?
Could you confirm that its the "Sony Bravia 2011" profile used for your Bravia TV?
Do you select "Folders" category name or "Album" or "Year" or others?

Hi folks.

I did some more testing.

I figured that I need to have jpegs with a medium quality level (I use Nikon Capture NX2 for converting .nef to .jpeg) to make it work.

The TV set won't accept "Highest" and "High" quality levels of a NX2 converted jpeg file.

The medium quality jpeg gotta file size of around 500kb btw. Just to give you an indication.

That jpeg limitation seems to be an undocumented TV set feature again.

From a Seriio perspective it would probably require a transcoder (ImageMagick??) for .jpeg ( or even more convenient in my case for .nef raw formats) to get the image quality level right.

Cheers

OK. Got it.

I've been also testing resizing images and suffixes jpeg/jpg without success.

It's really the chroma subsampling. (the image got more resp different colors than the TV can show -- to explain it the way I understand it)

Still the question remains why the BDP manages those 4:4:4 pics.

It shouldn't be such an effort for Sony to built a transcoder in.

Thx for your support. ( All this looks like a jungle to me. )

Cheers

Not the same firmware.

You can post on Sony support.

BTW.

There's a tool called RIOT http://luci.criosweb.ro/riot/ , which also works as plugin to Irfanview. That one lets you explicitely select 4:2:2 for export.

Most other programs I looked at do come with kinds of "medium" or "balanced" or similar choices. In those cases you'd never know if you end up in the
range of 4:2:0 or 4:2:2 (which would obviously be the prefered choice).

Cheers

A bit OFF topic:

I just want to get that story sealed. ;)

Perhaps there are more Nikon users out there running into the same issue.

I got feedback from Nikon Europe support about the Chroma subsampling used in Nikons Capture NX2 for jpeg conversion.

4:2:2 is used in "optimum/balanced" mode in the range of 60-79% ( you can choose a value here)

Above that range 4:4:4 is used, below that range 4:2:0 is used. I'm running 79% now.

Enjoy.

Cheers
