Presentation Tab all disabled except for Video/Folders set to 'Display Category'.
Library Tab 'Search For Updates Of Currently Shared Files' checked.
Library Tab Folders M:/Movies M:/Comedy M:/TV all set with 'Share Video Files', 'Retrieve Descriptive Metadata'

and "Scan For File Additions And Updates".

Movie files sourced on SATA caddy drive using logical partition M:MOVIES. Three folders Movies/Comedy/TV.

Sony BDP-S580 Blu-Ray player.

Talk Talk Fibre Router Huawei Echolife HG532

Wired LAN from PC directly to server and server directly to Sony.

PC Settings

Subnet 255.255.255.0
Default 192.168.1.1
DNS Pri 192.168.1.1
DND Sec 8.8.8.8

I have used the manual settings following the forum recommendations, as the auto settings kept installing multiple versions of Serviio on the Sony.

======
Sequence of operation 1:
Turn on Sony.
Serviio icon shows in yellow ie active, even though it has not been started yet!

Q1. Can someone please explain why this shows yellow with no apparent link and Serviio not active?

The Serviio icon Folders can be opened, but "No Playable File" is shown in each.

Insert caddy drive and wait to run up.
Start Serviio service. Start Serviio console.
In Serviio Status Tab the Sony shows up as IP address 192.168.1.20; Blu-Ray Disk Player;
Sony BD Player / SMP and green dot.
Turn off Sony, the green dot remains.
Disconnect the Sony LAN, the green dot remains.

Q2. Can someone please explain why the green dot should remain when the Sony has been disconnected?

Insert caddy drive and wait to run up.
In Serviio Library tab, 'Force Refresh'.
'Show Status' shows 'Checking For New Files' in red. 'Checking For Updates' in red. Never changes.
Close Library Status.

Q3. Can someone please explain what checking for new files does?
Why is this required when "Scan For File Additions And Updates" and 'Search For Updates Of Currently Shared

Files' are already checked?
How do these check boxes differ?

Sony still shows "No Playable File".
In Status Tab 'Stop Server' causes Sony Serviio icon to show grey. 'Start Server' show yellow again. So appear to

be communication between Sony and Serviio.
======

Turn on Sony with no LAN disconnected. Serviio grey icon.
Connect LAN to Sony. Serviio yellow icon. (see Q1)
Plug In caddy drive and allow to run up.
Start Serviio Service & Console.
Sony shows folders. "There is no playable file"
Serviio Stop Server. Sony grey icon. Serviio BD Player status green.
Serviio Start Server. Sony yellow icon. Serviio BD Player status green.
Disconnect LAN at Sony. Sony grey icon. Serviio BD Player status green.

Q4. How can the status remain green when the Serviio server is not connected to the Sony or running?

Reconnect LAN at Sony. Sony yellow icon. Serviio BD Player status green.
Serviio Library Force Refresh.
Show status 'Checking For New Files' starts green and showing files, then stops red with file showing.
'Checking For Updates' shows red all the time as if locked up.
Wait 5 minutes, still nothing happening.
Close Library Status.
Repeat. This time the 'Checking For New Files' and 'Checking For Updates' both show green for a few seconds, then

both change red. No files shown this time.
Close Library Status.
Repeat. This time the 'Checking For New Files' shows green for a few seconds, then goes red. 'Checking For

Updates' stays red. No files shown this time.
Close Library Status.
Repeat. This time the both 'Checking For New Files' and 'Checking For Updates' stay red. No files shown this

time.
Close Library Status.

Q5. Why does the same procedure produce different results?

Sony now lists files in folders and play all ok.

Exit Serviio.
Turn off Sony.
Turn On Sony.
Turn on Serviio Console.
Sony lists files in folders and play all ok.

======
Turn off Sony.
Reboot PC.
Turn On Sony. Serviio yellow icon.
Folders complete. File list complete. When attempting to play "A file is corrupt or unsupported".

Q6. Why does the Sony show Serviio as active and provide folders and files when there is no possibility of

playing them, as Serviio is not running on the PC?

Sony will not allow a return from the "A file is corrupt or unsupported" screen.
Many repeated attempts not getting anywhere. Home button returns to Serviio icon. (possible Sony bug?)

Start Serviio service. Start Serviio console.
Sony "There is no playable file".
Back to the folders then Serviio icon.
Turn off Sony.
Turn On Sony. Serviio yellow icon.
Sony "There is no playable file".

Serviio Stop Server. Sony grey icon. Serviio BD Player status green.
Serviio Start Server. Sony yellow icon. Serviio BD Player status green.
Sony "There is no playable file".

Serviio Library Force Refresh.
Show status 'Checking For New Files' starts green and showing files, then stops red with file showing.
'Checking For Updates' stays red.
Close Library Status.

Sony now plays file.

Q7. Why do I need to refresh library again? See Q3.

======
Working sequence:
Turn On Sony.
Insert caddy drive and wait to run up.
Start Serviio service. Start Serviio console.
Library Status - Force Refresh.
Now I can play movies.
======
Q8. Could someone please explain what the differences between the following settings are:
'retreive descriptive metadata'
'scan for file additions and updates'
'search for update of currently shared files.

Q9. What setting(s) would I need to have to automatically update my caddy drive whenever I add, or remove files?
