Streaming mp4 with soft subtitles on a SMP-N100

Hello,

First of all, thanks for the best DLNA server out there. I did try a few before downloading Serviio, and I gotta say, this is the best, hands down. And free, of course.

Ok, here is my problem:

I have a Sony SMP-N100, and for the past months I've been happy streaming divx files with soft subtitles (using AVIAddXSubs to burn srt in them). But then, the scene decided to switch to mp4.
Oh well, I turned transcoding on in Serviio and the mp4s are playable in my SMP. But now, how do I stream subtitles?

External Srts didn't work even for divx/avi files. AVIAddXSubs when confronted to a mp4, creates idx/sub files. Which of course don't stream at all.

Last night, I read about YAMB and how it can add soft subtitles to mp4 files. I thought I was saved, but no, the SMP can't enable them. So now, my last resort is hard burning the subs in the mp4 files. Is that the only way?

So I guess "NO" is the answer.

I am not sure, but I think the problem with streaming subtitles is due to the fact that ffmpeg does not support them right now.

Actually, I tried playing a mp4 in a USB and I couldn't enable the subtitles. Either external (srt and idx/sub) nor internal (created using yamb). So I guess the smp n100 is incapable of playing mp4 with subtitles.

Oh well, I'm going back to xvid/divx. Thankfully there are teams still releasing mp4 alternatives
