Getting AC3 to stream from Serviio to Sony BD Player

Lately I have been experimenting with Handbrake 0.9.4 to create m4v files using the Apple TV2 preset. This preset encodes two soundtracks from the source material as follows:

Track 1. Dolby ProLogic AAC soundtrack, suitable for playing on iPads.
Track 2. AC3 soundtrack, suitable for playing on a surround sound system.

When I create m4v files using this preset, and use Serviio to stream to my Sony BD Player, or to any iPad, the video and track 1 audio (Dolby ProLogic AAC) play back flawlessly.

However, what I really want to have happen is for my Sony BD player to play back the AC3 soundtrack, connected to my Surround Sound receiver via optical cable.

I am using the Sony BD output profile in Serviio.

Does anyone know how to make Serviio stream AC3 to a Sony BD Player, and Dolby Prologic AAC to an iPad?

Thanks!

As yet, unfortunately Serviio will only play the first audio track in the file. It's quite a limitation, as you have found. There is an open ticket for its implementation:

As a workaround for your case, you could enable native MKV playback on the BDP which would allow you to select between the two audio streams on the remote. This is covered in the Sony BDP readme sticky post in this forum. However, MKV playback on BDP sucks for other reasons (bad if streaming from a machine via wifi, fast forwarding breaks).

Thanks Patters,

That is good to know. However, I also tried creating the m4v file with Handbrake using AC3 as the first stream, and AAC as the second. This file did not show up in the Sony Serviio UI at all.

I will try and create a file with AC3 only, to see what happens.

One correction, I have been using Handbrake 0.9.6, NOT 0.9.4

Thanks!
