Hi all

Just wanted to drop in and say hi - we are big fans of what Petr has created and have already been improving functionality on BRAVIA by working closely with him in addressing some of issues people have raised.

The best way to explain what we are trying to do with Homestream is to make a easy to use DLNA solution for mass market users who aren't anywhere near as technically gifted as you guys. We aren't trying to switch people from Serviio to Homestream don't worry!! We know many people love the idea of sharing content, but don't know how to do it, so we are trying to make it as simple as possible. Basing Homestream on the Serviio platform for me was a no-brainer as its rock solid software and thanks to the work the community have done over the last few years, works brilliantly with our products. So as a thank you we''ll be doing some giveaways on the forums here, so stay tuned for that.

In the meantime, we are giving away a fantastic 2012 46" HX8 BRAVIA TV on our twitter feed - @sonyhomestream https://twitter.com/#!/SonyHomestream . This is probably the best TV we have created to date, gathering up plenty 5* reviews http://imgur.com/UOfV6 Just follow us and retweet one of the competition messages to be in with a chance of winning.

Please shout if you have any questions for me regarding Homestream or Sony in general and I'll do my best to answer.

Edd @ Sony

Any chance you would provide the profiles you have setup in Homestream for the Sony product to the community?

They are based on the current Serviio Sony profiles (Bravia = Bravia 2010, BDP = BDP, SNP = BDP, PS3 = PS3). No real changes there.

As a Sony BD (S580) and TV (HX853) owner, any chance you can explain why a perfectly good video that plays using the USB port on the BD cannot play without stuttering using DLNA & Serviio. I would attempt to try using the TV as a comparison, but for some reason Sony have decided to make the USB format incompatible between both devices (NTFS vs exFAT).

I have downloaded and installed Homestream. It is nothing more than Serviio masquerading as a Sony product. Does this now mean Sony will now pick up the baton and stop fobbing off Serviio queries, on the basis it does not support Serviio, only recommend it?
Once you have gotten over the mutual back patting, perhaps you can let me know why all my files are showing 'not supported or corrupted' in Homestream, yet play in Serviio.
I notice there are different configurations for the Sony products between Homestream and Serviio, why is this? Recent topics showing Serviio need to know the 2012 product capability, would imply there is no direct product communication between Serviio and Sony, so where has Homestream come from? Has Serviio lost its independency and sold out for profit?
Assuming I can get it working, will the Homestream DLNA finally limit the maximum bitrate to allow video to play over Sony DLNA products, or are we still left struggling with a Serviio copy that does not address this basic problem with Sony products?
I suggest Serviio create a separate section solely for Homestream support .

Homestream is a lightweight version of Serviio. It only includes Sony profiles, the Bravia one based on 2010 profile.
Once you have gotten over the mutual back patting, perhaps you can let me know why all my files are showing 'not supported or corrupted' in Homestream, yet play in Serviio.

Did you selecte the Bravia profile? Which profile do you use in Serviio?

To make it easier for casual users.

Recent topics showing Serviio need to know the 2012 product capability, would imply there is no direct product communication between Serviio and Sony, so where has Homestream come from? Has Serviio lost its independency and sold out for profit?

There is no direct communication between Serviio and Sony development team. This is an effort of Sony UK branch. Hopefully if Sony pick it up on global basis we will get some more info in advance. Serviio has not lost its iondependence, it's a separate product and Homestream licensing changes nothing about it.

Assuming I can get it working, will the Homestream DLNA finally limit the maximum bitrate to allow video to play over Sony DLNA products, or are we still left struggling with a Serviio copy that does not address this basic problem with Sony products?

Not sure what you mean and maybe you could create a topic in a case a missed it. You can limit bitrate by transcoding the whole video.

I suggest Serviio create a separate section solely for Homestream support .

That is not necessary, Sony UK is providing support for Homestream themselves.

This deal is very good for Serviio users as well as Sony will provide feedback and request changes that will be backported to Serviio (like in the case of 444 chroma subsampling JPG images now working on the Bravia TVs)

I suggest you take this into a separate topic.

Is it planned a Homestream version 1.2 with subtitles support on Sony devices?
