Sony Stuttering Cured!
I have done a lot of research using different file types in order to get to the bottom of files stuttering. It appears the DLNA bandwidth has been limited to 20Mbps to prevent decent blu-ray movies over DLNA (possible anti-piracy from Sony). I installed WD TV Live and nearly every one of my movies now plays without stutter through HDMI.
The only files that still stutter have True HD 7 or 8 channels which exceeds the 50Mbps of the WD TV Live (over twice that of DLNA). I suppose these may be playable on a more expensive media streamer, but ripping the audio to a lesser type (I don't have an audio system that can utilise these sound tracks) means they too play.
For some reason though, my AVI files (old TV programs) do not work through the WD TV Live, but work fine through my Sony BD-S580 player.
A lot of time spent wasted on trying to get DLNA to work through Serviio. I certainly don't think I'll invest in Sony again, unitl DLNA 2 comes out that solves the bitrate anti-piracy strangulation.
