Sony Bluray Home Cinema BDV-E980W - No subtitles with .avi

Hello,

As I am trying to fully use the features of my BDV-E980W, I have been testing many Mac (Mac OS X Mountain Lion) DLNA servers in order to choose the best.
I have tried Plex Media Server, iSedora Media Server, PS3 Media Server, Serviio, TV Mobili etc and I have concluded that the most reliable one is Serviio. However, the issue I have been trying to solve for weeks is missing subtitles with .avi files. I am using the same name for both .avi and .srt files but Serviio wouldn't stream them both to my Home Cinema. Generally, I prefer not to use transcoding as my Home Cinema supports all files I would like to use.

Not sure if topic viewtopic.php?f=11&t=2004 is up to date but I have read there that external .srt subtitles do not work with Sony systems. However, .srt subtitles work OK when I use a USB stick connected directly to the Home Cinema and also via DLNA with iSedora!! I have managed to make it work with iSedora using "Enable subtitles" setting and Greek (ISO 8859-7) subtitle encoding.

May I be using a firmware version which has started supporting .srt subtitles via DLNA?
Please note that I am using fw version M07.R.0624.

Any hints in order to make srt subtitles work with .avi files on Serviio 1.0.1 and Sony BDV-E980W?

Many thanks in advance.

Panos

That is up to date. I suspect iSedora transcodes the subtitles into the stream.

Thanks zip. I have tried Serviio with transcoding on but I am still having the same issues. Is there any way to show the subtitles in this case? Is it in your plans to add support in a future release?

in future, when FFmpeg implement it, yes.
