Sony rewind, fast forward + slider.

I have a Sony KDL40W5500U
And it is very picky as to what it will play, as per another ongoing thread in this forum.

However I would like to discuss rewind and fast forward + being able to select a point in the video using a "slider".
The Sony remote had fast forward and rewind buttons.
It also has a ring on the remote and pressing left or right does rewind/fast forward.
I recently discovered if you press left (or right) down and hold it down then a slider bar pops up and you can instantly slide to what ever point in the video you want.

Out of the various media servers I have tried the only one where this seems to fully work is (I hate to say it) the media server on my Windows 7 laptop, cough cough spit spit.
Others the ff/rewind partially works but the slider rarely works. With Serviio when I hold the ring down instead of a slider I get a message to the effect of function not available.

Also does the type of video affect the functionality some formats don't seem to want to ff/rewind ( not just with Sony ).

I am not complaining just wanting some feed back from users !

Thanks
Jim

Yes, but I do not remember which format supports FW (with Windows Media Sever, when you press "i" remote button, what are information displayed )

Hmmm
Tried Sony this morning against windows 7. Once I drilled down through the folders it said no items available or something similar.
It worked not long ago !!
Sony seemed very sluggish, occasionally I need to unplug it and start it up again.
It will be weekend now before I get chance again.
Thanks
Jim

Does the network connection are hardwired or "Wified" ?
If the file was transcoded, sometimes you have to wait that ffmpeg's process has finished, to be allowed to Fast Forward anywhere on all the movie timeline.
