Serviio

I am fairly new to Serviio. I have a Sony BDP-S580. I want to be able to play MKV files with embedded subtitles and be able to turn the subtitles on and off with the subtitle button on the remote. I have been able to do this successfully with several episodes of Justified that I tested by using the Sony Bravia TV (2001)- US profile. This profile also successfully played some AVI files. I was also able to fast forward and fast reverse with no problems. When I tried using the Sony BD Player / SMP which I thought would be correct for my Blu Ray player the MKV files showed up as MPEG files on my Blu Ray player. They played OK, but the subtitle function did not work. BTW, i currently have disabled transcoding as all of the files I am currently trying to play seem to be able to play directly over DLNA. I have previously used Windows Media Player with few problems. My questions are:

1. Is is likely that using the Sony Bravia TV (2001)- US profile will work well for a wide variety of files on my BDP-S580 or should I be using some other profile or a modified Sony BP / SMP profile?

2. I am recommending Serviio to a friend who has a mac and a Sony BDP-S580. Does anyone know whether the mac works well with Serviio and the BDP-S580?
