LG 47LE8900 and aspect ratios

Took possession of the above excellent TV last week, and hooked it up to the router right away. No problems there, and all the Netcast features work as expected. My issue is that when streaming video from the PC (via Serviio or PS3MS) or from a local disk plugged straight into the USB on the TV, it is a bit hit and miss when it comes to aspect ratios. DVD rips which have been saved at 720x 576 as usual (mainly through Handbrake) appear stretched vertically. This only happens where the original AR was 2.35:1 giving black bars top and bottom. When played via the PS3 they're fine. The TV doesn't really give any choices whilst streaming, only to play full screen giving the above result, or Original, which puts black bars round all 4 sides.
has anyone mangaed to get round this or do I have to rerip the DVD's in a different fashion?
