Display Movie Shortcuts

I have an LG Smart TV and I would like to display Movie Shortcuts on my TV as in the list of movies.
Here is what I have right now.
1. Folders according to Actors's names
2. ie.: I have a folder for Arnold Scwarzenegger's movies and one for Sylverster Stallone's Movies
3. The expandables series has both actors.
4. While the original movie is in the SS folder, I placed a shortcut of this movie in the AS folder.
5. The Short cut is no being displayed.
6. How can I display this shortcut and watch the movie if I would go into AS folder.

My question is: IS THERE A WAY TO DISPLAY THE MOVIE SHORTCUT ON THE TV?

I don't believe you can so that. Serviio will only display media files, or playlists. The shortcut is neither. I think what you really want is a playlist that points to the movies you want grouped together.

Is there a way to make it think the shortcut is a media file?

Nope. But that's what playlists are. They contain what could be called shortcuts, and point to media in a location other then the folder you are specifically looking in.

Here's an example of one of my playlists. You can see that the media is located on multiple hard drives, but they can all be played from this single list. If the player supports it, they will play one after another. The name of the playlist is taken from the name of the playlist file. In this case, the file name is "Blake Edwards.pls".

  Code:
[playlist]
File1=G:\Movies_E\Operation Petticoat (1959).mkv
Title1= -  - OPERATION_PETTICOAT
Length1=7224
File2=E:\Video_3\Experiment in Terror (1962).mkv
Title2= -  - Experiment in Terror
Length2=7404
File3=F:\Movies\The Pink Panther (1963).mkv
Title3= -  - THE PINK PANTHER LBX
Length3=6944
File4=F:\Movies\A Shot in the Dark (1964).mkv
Title4= -  - A_SHOT_IN_THE_DARK
Length4=6140
File5=G:\Movies_E\The Great Race (1965).mkv
Title5= -  - THE GREAT RACE
Length5=9598
File6=J:\Media\Movies_8\Recorded TV\The Return of the Pink Panther (1975).mp4
Title6= -  -
Length6=6590
File7=F:\Movies\Revenge of the Pink Panther (1978).mkv
Title7= -  - REVENGE_OF_THE_PINK_PANTHER
Length7=5938
File8=J:\Media\Movies_8\Recorded TV\Curse of the Pink Panther (1983).mp4
Title8= -  -
Length8=4816
NumberOfEntries=8
Version=2

Building a playlist is easy with a software program called Playlist Creator 3. It hasn't been updated in quite a while, but still works perfectly for me. It's a simple drag and drop to build the list.

Thank you very much for the answer.
I will try your suggestion.
Thanks
Werner

PS.: I tried to create a playlist with Creator 3. However, it won't display it on my LG TV.
Any suggestions?
Thank you

Can you create different playlist in different folders?
Once created will they be displayed in these folders?

Playlist files can be stored in any of the folders that Serviio uses for media. So if you didn't place them in a Serviio shared folder location Serviio can't see them. If doesn't matter which of the folders the playlist files are in, but I made a folder specifically for them, just to keep them all together.

Now, playlists do not appear under Titles, Movies, Folders, or any of the other presentation displays that Serviio offers. They only appear under the Playlists presentation. So first go into your Serviio console, click the Presentation tab, and ensure Playlists is set on Display Category. Click the save button, and then go back to your player and go to the main Serviio view. Playlists should be one of the selections.

If you've done all that and still nothing appears, then the format of the playlist file might have issues. In my playlists, I use the absolute path to the video file:

File3=G:\Movies_E\007\Goldfinger (1964).m2ts

This is in the PLS file format, but in M3U format the path is the same. Playlist Creator has options on how to specify the path, and with multiple file locations it's best to use absolute.

Thank you very much for the explanation.
So if I understand this correctly, the playlist cannot be displayed in a folder say "SYLVESTER STALLONE" it is displayed as a separate folder.

Thank you
Werner

Yes, that is correct. The playlist will only appear under the Playlists header.

I did not give up with my issue, and I found a solution that works to perfection.
After extensive research and reading posts, I came across a post here on this forum.
The solution to the shortcut issue is the use of "MKLINK". The little program I use
is "SYMLINK CREATOR". It is a freeware software. Works to perfection. Below is the link
for this valuable program. Now I can use a link to a movie in any folder. Works exactly
like a shortcut. Perfect. I name the filename according to the name of the movie and link
it to where the movie is located.
Works in Windows 10
Thank you very much
