Re: LG OLED48C14

For testing purposes, try using the Roku 4K TV profile. It will transcode DTS to AC3, as well as the lossless codecs, such as TrueHD. If that works, you can just stick with that profile or build a new LG profile for your use.

Hello,

I'm someone who doesn't know anything about these things. I would appreciate it if you could let me know where to find this profile and how to change it.

Tks.

it didn't work on my lg oled. When I switch to this profile, the TV does not show the newly added ones in the lists.

In the old days, it says the audio format is not supported and does not play the movie.

Re: LG OLED48C14

OK, you might try some other 4K TV profiles, such as the Samsung NU series. One should have the right combination of transcoding commands.

Re: LG OLED48C14

That is puzzling. At least one of them should have done something.

After you set the new profile, did you press the Save button at the bottom of the screen? This is not the screen where you set the profile, but after you changed it and closed the settings window. There's a second Save button at the bottom of the screen when you return to the Status screen.

Re: LG OLED48C14

I was able to resolve DTS issues for my LG C10 (OLED48CXPUA) by modifying the LG profile in profiles.xml. Here's the default LG TV profile:
  Code:
   <Profile id="8" name="LG TV / player" extendsProfileId="1">
      <Detection>
         <HttpHeaders>
            <friendlyName.dlna.org>LG.*</friendlyName.dlna.org>
         </HttpHeaders>
      </Detection>
      <!-- ResourceTransportProtocolHandler>org.serviio.upnp.protocol.http.transport.LGProtocolHandler</ResourceTransportProtocolHandler -->
      <MediaFormatProfiles>
         <MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/mp4" name="">AVI</MediaFormatProfile>
      </MediaFormatProfiles>
      <!--
      Transcoding doesn't seem to work and some files can be played natively:
      http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3914#p26273
      <Transcoding>
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">
            <Matches container="matroska" aCodec="dca" />
         </Video>
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" >
            <Matches container="flv" />
               <Matches container="asf" vCodec="wmv2"/>
               <Matches container="rm" />
               <Matches container="wtv" />
         </Video>
      </Transcoding>-->
      <GenericTranscoding>
        <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" />
      </GenericTranscoding>
      <MultipleAudioTrackAware>false</MultipleAudioTrackAware>
   </Profile>

The transcoding config for the LG TV profile has been commented out. Apparently that fixed a bug from 2011: http://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=3914#p26273

I changed my LG TV profile to the following and restarted Serviio:
  Code:
   <Profile id="8" name="LG TV / player" extendsProfileId="1">
      <Detection>
         <HttpHeaders>
            <friendlyName.dlna.org>LG.*</friendlyName.dlna.org>
         </HttpHeaders>
      </Detection>
      <!-- ResourceTransportProtocolHandler>org.serviio.upnp.protocol.http.transport.LGProtocolHandler</ResourceTransportProtocolHandler -->
      <MediaFormatProfiles>
         <MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/mp4" name="">AVI</MediaFormatProfile>
      </MediaFormatProfiles>
      <Transcoding>
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">
            <Matches container="*" aCodec="dca" />
            <Matches container="*" aCodec="dts-hd" />
         </Video>
      </Transcoding>
      <GenericTranscoding>
        <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3" />
      </GenericTranscoding>
      <MultipleAudioTrackAware>false</MultipleAudioTrackAware>
   </Profile>

This works great for my LG C10 (OLED48CXPUA), using Serviio to play media with a DTS track no longer gives me an "Audio not supported" message on the display. @montediaz, I think this solution would work as well with your OLED48C14. We've got practically the same TV except yours is a year newer.

Hi, I have a new LG OLED55C21LA and ofcourse there is no DTS decoding/passtrough so I would like to try the transcoding. I've just installed serviio 2.2.1 on my Ubuntu machine and changed "LG TV / player" section in the profiles.xml (as described in prevoius post) but unfortunately it doesn't work for me. When I select the movie with the DTS audio track I can watch only video without the audio (there is no sound). What to change to have transcoding DTS stream to AC3 in the fly without touching the video?

When you are playing the video on the TV, look at the Serviio console on the Status tab, and see if it shows the video being transcoded. If it's playing native, the play indicator is green. If it's being transcoded, it is more of an orange color. If it's green, then we need to look deeper as to why it's not transcoding. If it is transcoding, then we need to see a detailed log of the playback, so we can look at the ffmpeg command being used and perhaps find a solution for you.

Re: LG OLED48C14

OK, from the detailed log, your file is not being transcoded: "Delivering file 'The.Hobbit.The.Battle.of.the.Five.Armies.2014.720p.BluRay.x264.mkv' in native format" You didn't mention if the Serviio console had a green playback indicator, but my guess is that it was green.

Why it's not being transcoded, I can't answer. I know the developer has mentioned in the past that some TVs simply won't trigger transcoding, but I can't remember if LG was one like that. I don't use the internal player on any of my smart TVs, instead I use external players like Roku or the Nvidia Shield. Roku players work fine for transcoding, while the Shield can play anything without needing transcoding.

If Zip sees this conversation, perhaps he'll have some answer.

Thank you Dan.
Sorry I forgot mention. Serviio had a green playback indicator,

I also have Kodi installed on the home Ubuntu server machine on which I have serviio installed. The hardware (Gemini Like x64 Intel SoC processor) allows hardware video decoding/encoding e.g \. HEVC up to 4K. So using Kodi I do not need any audio/video transcoding but video playback on internal player looks little better to me (especially moving objects) although internal player is clunky and cumbersome at times with a small amount of customization options...

Re: LG OLED48C14

Hi,
I just want to confirm that DTS to AC3 transcoding (using @CountVonn settings) works on my LG LG OLED55C21LA.
In addition to changing the default LG profile and selecting this profile on connected LG TV device (using web Serviio UI) you have to switch 'Enable transcoding' checkbox (Delivery/Transcoding). :oops:
Thanks a lot. :)

-------------------------------------
EDIT:
audio DTS stream transcoded to ac3 sounds weak (at the default bitrate of 192k) So I change audio codec ac3
  Code:
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">

to aac
  Code:
         <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="aac">

which is (more efficient at 192k bitrate) and at the end the sound is far better.

Return to LG
