No SRT with LG 55LW5600

Hi!

None of my subtitles are working with Serviio.

The videos are all MKV and the SRT subtitles are all correctly named the same as the MKVs (except for the extension, obviously).

The subtitles work fine when playing the videos via VLC on the Serviio machine as well as with Samsung Share Manager on a Samsung TV.

The LG 55LW5600 (with Serviio) doesnt display any of the subtitles. The default LG profile is assigned to the TV in Serviio.

Am I missing anything? Thanks!

Are you sure that LG TV supports external subtitle file over DLNA?

Am I sure? No. But this FAQ entry kinda implies that it would:

Also, just to clarify...this is happening with MKV/AC3 files - that are I assume are not being transcoded (per the default LG profile)

<Profile id="8" name="LG TV / player" extendsProfileId="1">

yeah, it is definitely working with some models. It's not with other, or only under certain circumstances. I'm not sure why as people got it working using other servers.

Thats a bummer because I really like Serviio and want to be able to use it.

The POS Samsung Share Manager plays (almost) everything I throw at it (including the subtitles). Just cant stand the program.

Thanks!

Hang on, does the Samsung server play subtitles with the LG TV? I assume Serviio shows subtitles on your Samsung.

Re: No SRT with LG 55LW5600

Hi

I have LG 42LW650S and have the same problem. No subtitles. Name of the srt file is the same as name of mkv file.

I have tried with TVMobili(on Ubuntu Linux) and Nero(Win7) and it works fine. But i would like to use serviio(on Ubuntu). I have the latest version of serviio.

Re: No SRT with LG 55LW5600

we'd have to sniff the packets of one of these servers (during browsing to the file and 5 seconds of playback) and of serviio doing the same thing and compare (Wireshark)

Re: No SRT with LG 55LW5600

Well, I tried the LG with Nero MH and the Samsung SM and the subtitles worked fine with both. As for the Toshiba, I didnt get subtitles with any of the three DLNA servers so I took it back and got a Samsung PN59D7000 instead. Subtitles work great with Serviio and the new Samsung.

So, I'm assuming the Toshiba just didnt support subtitles via DLNA.....and Serviio and the LG are just not the best of friends :)

Re: No SRT with LG 55LW5600

I do not believe the 2011 model LG TVs are sufficiently supported using the LG TV profile. I leave my TV (47LW550T) on the default DLNA profile and most things work, although I need to work on setting up transcoding for a few things like FLAC.

It does appear just like the Sony 2010/11 Blu-ray players though that newer versions of the MKV container fail outright, so I wonder if that is something that needs to be fixed in Serviio itself?
