Newbie trying to connect it all

Hi

I'm trying to use Serviio with my Panasonic Viera TX but I'm not sure what I am supposed to click on to connect it all.

I have Serviio running and it has picked up some generic devices and Ive changed them to Panasonic, and Ive put some folders in the console - is that all I need to do to get the software transmitting to my tv ? On the tv itself I've been through the Viera Tools and also been through the internet tools but nothing appears to be connecting i.e. how wiil I know if/when the tv is picking up Serviio ? How will it recognise it and what will it call it so I know it's there ?

I'm usually pretty computer literate but I'm a bit stumped with this so far !

Thanks.

Forgive me if these steps are already known, but I thought I'd make sure.

On my Viera ST30, the Viera Tools button opens a menu list across the bottom of the screen. Use the left/right arrow buttons to find the DLNA menu, then push the OK button. You should now see all DLNA servers on your home network, and Serviio should be one of them. If you have Windows 7 or 8 on a home computer, you may see those as well.

Scroll up/down to the Serviio box and push OK. Now you should see Movies, Pictures and Music, depending on your selections in the Serviio Console for presentation. Click Movies and you will either see a list of available videos or additional sub-menus. Keep going until you find you movies listed.

If no movies are being listed, there are two possible errors: your shared folder selections are inaccurate, or your movies are named incorrectly and Serviio can't find a title match from the online databases. I have found the most success with Movie Name and then (movie year). Also make sure the file type is recognized, such as .MKV, .MP4, .AVI, etc. I have tried a format or two that didn't show up, but I can't remember what they were. Sorry.

If this hasn't resolved your issue, let us know.

Just a slight mod to the above: on the Pana V20 the DLNA menu option is called "Media Servers".

Also, it may pay to check the following: Next to the Media Servers option is "Viera Cast". If you go into there you will have a number of internet services - check that they are working as this will let us know that you have your TV connected to your router correctly.

Hi

No luck so far. On the Viera tools menu, the Media Server just recognises my wireless internet box but nothing else comes up.

(Incidentally the tv guide says I need to download something called TwonkyMedia server" but is that just another program like Serviio?)

Yes, Twonky is another DLNA server product. In my previous testing (over a year ago) I found it didn't hold a candle to Serviio for performance. Perhaps it has improved.

I'm wondering if there's some sort of firewall enabled on your computer that is blocking the UPnP broadcast. If you are running Serviio on a Windows computer you should check the built in firewall settings, and check your anti-virus product for any firewall settings.
