Stuttering on Vt60 under W7 and not under Mac

Hi there!

Today I installed Serviio to use mkv files on my VT60. I was very happy because I had high expectations from this product! :)
But with the default profile, or the 2011, 2012, or 2013 (take here viewtopic.php?f=13&t=7703) I have crazy stuttering.
I just check my ethernet cable and is ok. The same mkv file used on serviio installed on my mac book is ok on vt60.

My hardware is ok, i7 4400mhz, 8gb ram, ssd... but only under windows 7 i have this crazy stuttering.
What's wrong?

Thank you very much for support! :)

Video or audio stuttering.
Is MAC connected via same router, via cable or wireless?

Hi DenyAll, :)

i have a continuous frame drops, image and audio frozen every 2 seconds.
Mac is connect via wifi to the same router. I also use the same pc ethernet cable with mac, without problems. Its very strange.

I try to connect my Vt60 via cable and via wifi to router but there wasn't difference.
I have noticed that when I'm in Media Center menu the thumbnail image of movie load very slowly. It's seems to be a problem of data stream, but cpu and lan connection do not show anything abnormal.

I have try to use mkvmerge and make a new version of mvk files adding a new code lines, how you have suggest some post ago, but it did not work.
Into some hour i'll try with a hhd usb connect direct to router, and I will understand if it is a pc problem as I think, although I have not the slightest idea what the problem might be and how to fix.

Thank you!
Regards

PS
On MAC i have Serviio 1.3 but on PC 1.3.1.
Where i can download and try 1.3 version for pc? :)

Just now during my lunch break I tried version 1.3 on pc (i found a link on forum) but problem remains.

Then I tried the mvk demo file "batman begins" on mac with serviio 1.3: surprise, problem also here!
I have not yet tried the Panasonic 2013 version created by you on Serviio 1.3 version

Another strange thing, some hd demo file (take here http://www.demo-world.eu/trailers/high- ... ailers.php) and tested with Blu-ray reader DMP-BDT330 connected to Mac Serviio was and are ok, works fine.

I dont know what i can try in next future.

Can you provide MediaInfo details for a file that doesn't work. Using MediaInfo can you spot similarities in those files that stutter?

Where are we at with the Mac (to my mind this was what stood out from other stuttering reports, that the mac served the file and the PC didn't, presumably both on the same profile). Are we now saying both mac and PC are performing the same? If so, or even if not :D, it's likely to be some aspect of the file not liked by the TV (eg bit rate, h264 level, audio codec, video codec).

Thanks for sending me the video link - good way to see what is going on. For others - there is distinct stuttering (momentary freezing of video and audio) when streaming an m2ts file from Windows 7. The same file streams perfectly from a MAC. Ditto for other HD file types... and, please, no comments on the superiority or otherwise of the MAC OS

This is going to be a tough one to resolve. Logically it must be one of three things:

  • Hardware. Given you have ruled out the network hardware, then if hardware related it must be in the PC. I have read in another post for a different TV where it appeared that the buffer on the ethernet card was insufficient for HD streaming with their model of TV. They proved it by using WiFi instead of cable on the PC - not sure if you have that option, but if you can try WiFi on your Windows machine it might help (ps. they played with the Ethernet cards buffer and Serviio's buffer with no improvement). Must admit, this is a long shot though, so don't worry if this option is not available. The fact that the MAC works on cable is not necessarily relevant, MAC probably implement ethernet and buffers differently.
    Another issue may be the SSD. Google "SSD causes stuttering" and you get quite a few hits - but predominantly related to games. Have a read. If there are no other fixes from your reading, you could try installing Serviio (and Java) to a HDD and ensuring all temp files and other files point to the HDD rather than the SSD??;

  • Serviio Software. The Java implementations on MAC and PC must have some differences. If it is Serviio software related though I would have expected all users with the VT60 to be suffering from stuttering when streaming HD using a PC??? (any users of the VT60 - feedback on HD streaming from Windows 7 would be appreciated). One thing you could test here is to set up another Media Server on the Windows PC (enable Windows Media Player streaming is easiest) and see if that also stutters when playing the file;

  • Software conflict or something else consuming CPU or other resources. Windows has all sorts of things running in background that could either be conflicting with the serving process. To start investigating this, try:
    • Open Resource Monitor and look at what the CPU, Disk, and Network is doing when streaming. Look for spikes. This should tell you what processes are causing the increased resource usage (if any)
    • Use MSConfig to turn off all startup items (start up tab, disable all), all non-microsoft services except Serviio (services tab, hide microsoft services then deselect all except Serviio) and then reboot. This will then restart your PC with the minimum software loaded - try streaming again. After testing, remember to go back to msconfig and select normal startup to reset everything.
Ideas from anyone else??

Just a fast update guys

Take a look http://youtu.be/ZFb-KrTyJaY
I'm start to became crazy :D

With Serviio server on PC connect to Blu Ray media server m2ts files are ok!
With Serviio server on PC connect to VT60 media server m2ts files shutter

and final surprise: my mkv arent visible on Blu Ray media server.... mmmm

Thank you for support! :)

I have to try this myself - playing m2ts file, since my Serviio is also on Windows 7.

But what I did notice on that Youtube video is that the SSD (C Drive was almost full). If Serviio is saving the temp file in the same drive, then it probably is not finding enough space?

Perhaps I am shooting in the dark, but can you check on that as well?

I will find an m2ts file from my library and try.
