Hi.
I am able to watch any type of file using serviio, avi..mkv, but it seems that serviio is not passing the subtitles.
The subtitle file has the same name as the video file, the profile i have is the "Panasonic Viera" and i use transcoding...
Independently of the video file type, i am not getting subtitles on the tv...
Does anyone can help me?

Serviio only support "srt" external file.
The Panasonic profile includes the subtitle feature :
<SubtitlesMimeType>text/srt</SubtitlesMimeType>Look at this :
http://www.serviio.org/index.php?option ... icle&id=33You could also check into the
detailed log file (see signature).

I am using external subtitles with file extension srt...and it is not working.
I already tried to use SrtWiz and it didn't worked.
Where can i see the
detailed log file ? in C:\Program Files (x86)\Serviio\log\serviio.log?
I am using windows 7 64bit. I already tried differente movies with differente external subtitles and nothing worked.

"try to view the file in Folders category"
By that you mean to view the file in folders category in the G30 TV menu?
That also doesn't work.

I have a TX=P50G20BA. I get the same problem.
I only have srt files. Named exactly as the avi files. If I play the videos via DLNA using MediaLink from my Mac the subtitles work fine. If I play they via ReadyDLNA the subtitles work fine. But using serviio the subtitles dont work.
I am running the latest serviio 0.6.0.1 (just got it and installed it on mt ReadyNAS Pro 6).
ANother thing I notice is that all my files have the year in them but the year bit does nit show up in the listing from serviio like it does using other DLNA servers. For example, I have a file called "Operation Daybreak (1971).avi", this is shown up in the listing on the TV as "Operation Daybreak". Just a thought, if the serviio has parsed the file name without the date portion, could it also be looking for "Operation Daybreak.srt" rather than "Operation Daybreak (1971).srt"?
I have close to 900 movies, some 200 of them have srt files. So far I have tried about 20 movies with subtitles and none of them work.
I too have the Panasonic Viera profile set.

Ideally could you capture packets with Wireshark when you're broswing the other server all the way to the file and pres play (for just a few seconds)?
And I assume you are using latest Serviio with unmodified profile?

Tomorrow, I'l put an old 10/100 hub between my switch and my NAS and hook up wireshark using my Mac form the hub. Currently my Mac, Nas and TV are all plugged into my Switch and my switch is doing its job of not letting me see the traffic.
How will I post you the wireshark output?

Sorry for the late reply. I have been trying to find that hub I was talking about. We recently did a house cleanup and it got lost in the loft. Anyway, I finally found it.
I set things up today but no matter what configuration I setup, I cant seem to see any packets from my TV in wireshark! I must be doing something wrong...need help.
I have a Netgear GS108 switch from my router which feeds cat6 all around my house. I took a feed off the switch and hooked it into the 10/100 hub. I then linked my TV, my Nas server and my Mac up to the hub (usually they are linked to the switch). I then ran wireshark. I set a capture filter (tcp port http) and set the capture options to enable network name resolution. I then start the capture. I see messages going back and forth from my Mac but I cant see any messages between the TV and the NAS despite the TV successfully connecting to serviio running on my ReadyNAS pro 6 and the TV is able to traverese the menus and select a movie to watch on the server. It plays the movies fine. But as I said I cant see any TCP or SAOP traffic from my TV in wireshark.
Perhaps you could help me by suggesting the correct options/config/parameters I should setup in wireshark. I feel fairly confident that I should be able to sniff the packets between the TV and my NAS since they and my Mac are on a dedicated network now via my hub.
Any help appreciated.

Ah, you'd have to run Serviio on your PC, not NAS - or somehow run Wireshark on the NAS.

Yes as I thought. Not sure if I can get wireshark to run on the ReadyNAS as it is headless. I'll see if someone has done a port. ANything else I could try?

I might've found an explanation just now - if you have the movie in mkv container - it doesn't show the subtitles even when you have it as moviename.mkv+moviename.srt... but if your movie is moviename.avi + moviename.srt - it works. didn't test this with other extensions, but seems like this could be the reason. panasonic 42E30 here.

I think I heard it before, but not sure what device - might well have been Panasonic. Looks like they're not asking for the subtitles file when playing mkv. Not much we can do ;-/

Thanks for such a quick response! I'll test this more, for now I only tried with a few files. If this is definitely the case, can serviio be made to present mkvs (and maybe mp4s) as avi files to viera tvs? I know there is a difference in the container file structure, but maybe a conversion can be handled serverside on the fly? it shouldn't be too intensive, as nothing is being transcoded... sorry if I'm talking rubbish.

AFAIK FFmpeg remuxing will not properly handle timestamps (sometimes) so that then the subtitles are off. You might be better off doing it manually (remux mkv to mp4 or similar).
