Playing Video on Panasonic DMP BDT220?????

Hello,

I am new to this however I would like to view my movies off my computer on my TV through the bluray player. Everything connects well however, I don't know what format movies need to be in so that it plays. I am constantly getting "cannot play" on most of my movies. When I bought my HD2 mobile phone it came with transformers 1 and 2. It plays perfectly just like it would on a dvd. Whatever format that is in....that is what I need (i think). It plays in mp4...looks like....

I just need to know what is need so that I can play all my movies. I might have to convert..and that fine...but if there is a special format or screen size it needs to be in.....If would greatly appreciate the information....this is driving me crazy.....

thanks for your help!

I was struggling with this as well, but noticed on another forum (plex) that users had success with a Bravia profile. I set the profile to Bravia (2009) and it seems to work well.

Or try one of the Viera profiles in 1.0

The Bravia profile has the same "Cannot Play." result for me :/

They don't seem to work either :/

I have the same issue with the BDT110. I can play nothing from any online plug-in, but can play almost everything from my home network.

Most files I have are in some form of MPG format. It will also play ripped Blu Rays with no issue (M2TS), although my ripping software changes the default audio track to non-english and the Panasonic has no method of choosing a different audio track. It also plays ripped DVDs in VOB or MPG. It seems to be hit or miss if MP4 will play, as well as MKV. I have been struggling to find a format that will work on all my devices (BDP110, Viera TV and Sony Media Player SNP-200).

I just replaced my BDT110 with the BDT220. I now have the ability to change audio tracks, but the standard english language track still isn't there. What's really strange is that I can use conversion software (Tipard Converter) to change it from M2TS to MPG, and I can select the HD audio track and I end up with the audio track I want. I'm guessing that either FFMPEG and/or Serviio is choking on the HD audio stream.

I can play a MKV file from one of my WIndows 7 computers, but my server (Windows Server 2003) running Serviio can't play them. I think there's an issue with the BDT220 being an unrecognized device. Serviio doesn't see it as a BD player or anything else. My BDT110 is recognized as a BD player, but not the brand. My VIERA TV is fully recognized and my Sony SNP-200 boxes are recognized as generic media players. But the BDT220 is completely unrecognized, which is probably why we are having streaming issues with it.

If the file is transcoded, Serviio only transfers the first track.

I think it has something to do with my ripping software. If I play the movie on a computer, I still get the wrong audio. Makes me think the ripper is changing which audio track is set as default. However, using PowerDVD to play the file allows me to select the correct HD audio, so it's still there. Sigh...

Gentlemen of this forum can anyone help me. I have had no luck streaming any of my MKV movies using the BDT220 player...keep getting 'Cannot play' on every file. I am running WIN8 64 bit system with an AMD Quad core and 16 gb of memory. Although I am a noob I have read all relevant sections of this forum and have tried all the Viera profiles with no luck. Funny enough the Sony Bravia 2010 profile takes me a bit further where one or two mkv movies start but stutter quite a bit.

What more can I do? I decided to support the developer of this great program by purchasing the PRO version but not sure if I can actually get this to work.

Thanks,
Daune

I also had some problems using DLNA client on my BDT220. For me it worked to add a new profile to config/profiles.xml:

My understanding is that the "MediaFormatProfile" entries are needed to "hide" the real encoding of the file from the BTD220. If these entries are missing the BDT220 will not even ask serviio for the file. It will just display the message "unable to display".
The "Transcoding" entries will make sure everything is send to the BDT220 in a format it understands. Be aware that this means the source file will be transcoded on the fly before being send to the BDT220. However for my use case (a lot of small files ~100MB) this does not bother me and I won't spend my time to optimize this.
As a test case I used the Iron Man 2 trailer from http://www.divx.com/de/node/1247.
Without the new profile I was unable to access the file from BTD220. Now it works.
Hope this will help other BDT220 users!

I have done some further testing and optimizing. This is the new profile I am using. It prevents the transcoding of supported vCodecs (mpeg2video, h264) to be transcoded. Saving CPU time

  Code:
<Profile id="BDT220V1.1" name="Panasonic - BDT220 V1.1" extendsProfileId="1">
<Detection>
  <UPnPSearch>
    <FriendlyName>DMP-BDT220/221</FriendlyName>
    <Manufacturer>Panasonic</Manufacturer>
</UPnPSearch>
</Detection>
<ContentDirectoryMessageBuilder>org.serviio.upnp.service.contentdirectory.PacketVideoDLNAMessageBuilder</ContentDirectoryMessageBuilder>
<MediaFormatProfiles>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts" name="MPEG_TS_SD_EU,MPEG_TS_SD_NA,MPEG_TS_SD_KO">AVC_TS_MP_HD_AC3_ISO</MediaFormatProfile>
<MediaFormatProfile mime-type="video/vnd.dlna.mpeg-tts" name="MPEG_TS_SD_EU,MPEG_TS_SD_NA,MPEG_TS_SD_KO">AVC_TS_MP_SD_AC3_ISO</MediaFormatProfile>
</MediaFormatProfiles>
<Transcoding>
<Video targetContainer="mpegts">
<Matches container="*" vCodec="mpeg2video" aCodec="ac3"/>
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" aCodec="ac3"/>
</Video>
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3">
<Matches container="*" vCodec="mpeg2video"/>
<Matches container="*" vCodec="h264"/>
</Video>
<Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetVCodec="mpeg2video" targetACodec="ac3">
<Matches container="*"/>
</Video>
</Transcoding>
</Profile>

You can try it out. If you encounter problems you can still use the first profile posted in this thread (where I assume now the <MediaFormatProfiles> section can be removed, but I am reluctant to test this because it worked so far (never change a running config :-))

Further optimization of the BTD220 would need detailed knowledge of the DLNA spezification which is not publicly available:
viewtopic.php?t=8251

because from uPnP services you can find out which DLNA formats BTD220 supports directly:

  Code:

but without detailes what AVC_TS_HD_60_LPCM_T, ... exactly means in terms of vCodec, aCodes, Resolution, ... you are down to try and error analysis within the configuration. So for now I will stick with my BDT220 V1.1 profil and will only update it if I encounter any new problems (meaning unplayable files).

KrisDech -
I have a BDT220 Panasonic Blu-ray player and was having trouble with all Panasonic profiles. Those profiles when I try and play a video it says "cannot play". Your version 1.1 profile plays everything fine. However, I notice it freezes when I try and pause it and it also doesn't ffwd or rwd. Have you fixed the FFwd or rewind, or are you having this issue also? Thanks,

i was always watching small movies of ~2min. So no need to pause or to cue back and forth. But i just checked and you are right. Pause works sometimes. Sometimes means after restart it freezes and sometimes (after 10-20 sec) it continues. But most often it just keeps hanging. Nothing happens and you have to press stop. ffwd and rwind do not work at all.

My impression is that this is due to poor implementation of DLNA client in BDT220. I use the same profile for my TV (Panasonic L47ETW5) and there seems to be a better implementation of the DLNA client. There pause, ffwd and backwd works as expected. So I would say no error in profil. No error in Serviio server but just a poorly implemented client in BDT220.

I'm looking to try this profile with my DMP-BDT120 which has been giving me a headache for the last couple of evenings. Pardon my naivety but how do I get this code into the profiles.xml file? Whereabouts exactly in the file should I add it? Or can I get it to work without needing to touch that file?

I've never edited XML files before but sort of recognise the principle from viewing HTML files, hence why I'm, asking where to put it in the file as I know the wrong location will completely cock the file and profiles up!

Thanks for that. I managed to add the profile into the profiles.xml file without causing too many problems. My Blu-Ray Player is now seeing and playing the files on my PC.

I am experiencing the same as KrisDech with the Pause/Rewind and Pause problems. I don't believe however that it is a problem with the DLNA Client on the Blu-Ray Player as I cannot Panasonic Quality Control approving a product with such an error. Also, the buttons on the DLNA Client for these functions are available, meaning that they must work somehow. I'm therefore inclined to say that the Profile needs some tinkering with to allow these functions to work.

It may be that it needs tailoring to suit this Blu-Ray Player specifically and that it working on a Panasonic TV may be a fluke as it could have a different spec.

Does anybody have any idea how to tweak the Profile which will affect these functions?

Buttons on remote don't mean the functionality is supported for DLNA. Also Panasonic being huge corporation doesn't mean their QA is any good. DLNA itself states min specs devices must adhere to and it's possible this model only implements those.

You could however post detailed log of playing the file and trying to press pause/ffwd, to see if there is any incoming request from the player to Serviio.

Thanks for posting this Panasonic BDT-220 profile. I have inserted the 1.1 version into my Serviio profiles file using Notepad and it seems to be working so far (I'm a novice to .xml editing). I will feedback further when I've had more experience.

The only thing I've noticed is that the coloured dot in the Status screen of the Console is amber and not green (as it is for my Panasonic Viera TV). Not sure if this matters but would be happy to know if others have seen this.

Thanks again.

Hi I'm new to this forum and I was also having difficulty with the BDT220. The profile listed above I believe is for the European version of this player. I have the sink for the north american player if that is useful?
