Viera gt30e subtitles issue

Hello there,

First thank you for serviio ! I have been playing with it for two days and it works great !

I am running serviio 0.6.0.1_1 on FreeBSD 9.0 and displaying the stream on Panasonic gt30e. All works well except the subtitles. The srt files have the same name as the movies ( mkv ), but they just fail to display. I use the default profile, which comes with the serviio package.

any help is appreciated

Thanks.

Forgot to mention that the serviio.log shows that the subtitles are detected and included in the stream. Any clue what else I can check ?

There is no one simple answer. This is probably not a FreeBSD or Serviio problem, but a Panasonic Viera issue.
(Panasonic support for subtitles is not very good.)

Some Panasonic Viera TVs do not support subtitles at all.

Sets sold in Europe usually support internal subtitles in AVI (DiVX) files, but may not support external subtitles when playing MKV files.

First step is usually to check if there is an option in Submenu to turn on subtitles, and next, check if internal subtitles can be turned on an off when playing an AVI file with transcoding turned off.

I have G30 Plasma, EU version. It supports subtitles (srt) file next to an avi file with the same filename, but you cannot do that with MKV file neither with serviio or directly via USB drive. For MKV you must put subtitle INSIDE the MKV container with "mkvmerge". After that you will not even need serviio subtitles support - subtitles will even work through embeded DLNA server of Windows 7.

P.S. I think only "srt" subs are supported with avi, but no "sub" files.

Now my problem: I have different movies and RTS titles places appropriately. Format of the titles is the same, encoding is the same (ansi) but some movies detect titles and some don't. I just can't get to the bottom of that problem. Is there a debug log?
