MKVs with Dolby are unsupported TX L37ET5b

I have made some MKV files of a couple of blu rays I have, some have DTSHD and some are DolbyHD or whatever the HD formats are called.

Anyway, the MKVs with the DTS sound track play fine but the Dolby ones are according to the TV and unsupported sound format, is this actually true or is it a profile problem? I have Transcoding turned off in Serviio, turning on transcoding will probably make it work but im trying to figure out what the TV will play on its own.

Is that TVUPNP thing from the Intel tools I posted above supposed to tell me what the TV can play without transcoding?

So only audio tracks are different ?

I try to understand:
When transcoding turned off, all files are delivered in native format (without trascoding), so you can figure out what the TV will support.
Could you give some example that play fine, and other that failed?

When transcoding turned on, what formats play fine ?

Ok, Ill start again. My original enquiry was just this 'Does my TV TX-l37ET5B play MKV files with the Dolby TrueHD sound track? '

I have found a couple of profile errors for my TV so the topic is now a bit wider than originally.In Serviio the TV is set as Panasonic VIErA Panasonic Viera G/GT/DT/UT/VT (2011/2012)

Intel tools UPNP thing.

This MKV works fine with either Transcoding ON or OFF.

I have also found other files that are listed differenty on the TV depending if Transcoding is either on or off.
EG FLAC files show up as LPCM with Transcoding ON, the TV is capable of playing FLAC nativly.
An MP4 file is listed as VIdeo on the TV with transcoding ON, with it OFF it is listed as on MP4, the tv is capable of playing it either way.

There is probably more but that will do for now.
Thanks
Mark

Thanks for Intel tools UPNP, I add the result on Wiki : http://wiki.serviio.org/doku.php?id=dev ... #panasonic
Could you report from INTEL TOOLS, the following element for your model number:
<friendlyName>VIERA ???</friendlyName>
<manufacturer>Panasonic</manufacturer>
<modelName>Panasonic VIErA</modelName>

kram wrote:I have found a couple of profile errors for my TV so the topic is now a bit wider than originally.In Serviio the TV is set as Panasonic VIErA Panasonic Viera G/GT/DT/UT/VT (2011/2012)

OK, so with this profile
- when transcoding is ON:
    MATROSKA/H264/TRUEHD should be transcoded to MPEGTS/H264/AC3
    MATROSKA/H264/DTS should be delivered in native format (inherit of generic profile)
- when transcoding is OFF:
All MATROSKA should be delivered in native format

kram wrote:With Transcoding turned OFF my Blu ray rips with DTS HD format play audio fine, the rips with DOLBY True HD are unsupported audio format according to the TV.

So this means that MATROSKA/H264/DTS are supported, but MATROSKA/H264/TRUEHD are not supported by the TV.
Could you select "Generic Profile" on serviio console and check that you have the same previous result (DTS supported, TRUEHD not supported)
If you have MATROSKA/H264/AC3 on your database, could you check if your TV support it.

kram wrote:Now with Transcoding turned ON, both of these files DO NOT PLAY, its an unsupported video format according to the TV.

Humm...both not supported !! Don't really anderstand, MATROSKA/DTS should be delivered in native format.
Could you enable detailed logging (see signature link) then check if this file is transcoded?

kram wrote:This MKV works fine with either Transcoding ON or OFF.

This means that MATROSKA/H264/MP3 are supported in native format.
Could you try with "Generic Profile" selected with the same file?

kram wrote:I have also found other files that are listed differenty on the TV depending if Transcoding is either on or off.

Following protocol are supported with your model number
http-get:*:audio/flac:*,
http-get:*:audio/x-flac:*,

Then you can comment <Matches container="flac" /> element on Audio Transcoding section.
Also I see :
http-get:*:audio/x-ms-wma:*,
http-get:*:audio/x-ms-asf:*,

So you probably could comment <Matches container="asf" /> too
Idem with
http-get:*:audio/aac:*,
http-get:*:audio/x-aac:*,
http-get:*:audio/vnd.dlna.adts:*,

comment <Matches container="adts" /> too

Provide information about that file.

Ok I changed to the generic profile and the results were the same as with the Panasonic profile selected and no transcoding. MVK with DTDHD plays, MKV with TrueHD dosent play sound and every file seems to be labled correctly on on the TV as well.

I found a MKV with AC3 to download from the serviio Wiki, its the Batman clip. It dosent play smoothley at all, video and audio work but its impossable to watch. Its the same with Panasonic or Generic profile.

Preliminary: when you edit the profile.xml, you have to restart the serviio service to reload new profiles modifications.

kram wrote:Here is the MP4 media info, Ill get to the rest tomorrow.
MPEG-4/AVC/AAC

OK, edit profiles.xml and with <Profile id="viera2011a", on the second <Video>..</Video> element, comment following line
<Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" aCodec="aac" />
Retry to play your MP4 file.

kram wrote:Ok I changed to the generic profile and the results were the same as with the Panasonic profile selected and no transcoding. MVK with DTDHD plays, MKV with TrueHD dosent play sound and every file seems to be labled correctly on on the TV as well.

OK, so <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="truehd" /> line on second <video> element should be kept, but you said that this file does not play with transcoding on. you confirm?

kram wrote:I found a MKV with AC3 to download from the serviio Wiki, its the Batman clip. It dosent play smoothley at all, video and audio work but its impossable to watch. Its the same with Panasonic or Generic profile.

OK, so MKV/AVC/AC3 is a good transcoding output format. So we can keep the <Video targetContainer="mpegts" targetACodec="ac3" forceInheritance="true"> element

kram wrote:Next I tried this file, its a WMV file, with transcoding off there is no audio.
WMV/VC-1/WMAPro

OK, so WMA Pro is not supported and should be transcoded.
Could you add another <video> element with following :
  Code:
            <!-- transcode audio only for wmv with wmapro -->
            <Video targetContainer="asf" targetACodec="ac3" aBitrate="256">
                <Matches container="asf" aCodec="wmapro" />
            </Video>

If audio does not play, you can also try with this
  Code:
            <!-- transcode audio only for wmv with wmapro -->
            <Video targetContainer="asf" targetACodec="wmav2" forceStereo="true">
                <Matches container="asf" aCodec="wmapro" />
            </Video>

kram wrote:Intel Tools reports the Friendly Name as VIERA ET5 Series,

So, if we new to create a specific profile we'll use these elements to automatically select the proper profile. Thanks
You confirm this ?
<friendlyName>VIERA ET5</friendlyName>
<manufacturer>Panasonic</manufacturer>
<modelName>Panasonic VIErA</modelName>

What about audio transcoding ?

Had some time today to try out some of your ideas.

So, if we new to create a specific profile we'll use these elements to automatically select the proper profile. Thanks
You confirm this ?
<friendlyName>VIERA ET5</friendlyName>
<manufacturer>Panasonic</manufacturer>
<modelName>Panasonic VIErA</modelName>

That is what is reported by the Intel tools package.

I have changed 2 sections so far in the profile, 1st was the audio part concerning FLAC and other audio.

  Code:
<!-- unsupported audio will be transcoded into lpcm audio -->
 -<Audio targetContainer="lpcm" forceInheritance="true">
<!-- <Matches container="flac" /> -->
 <Matches container="ogg"/>
<!-- <Matches container="asf" /> -->

<!-- <Matches container="adts" /> -->
 </Audio>

ON the TV FLAC is now reported as FLAC, this bit works :)

2nd part was in the video section about MP4,

  Code:
Profile name="Panasonic Viera G/GT/DT/UT/VT (2011/2012)" id="viera2011a" extendsProfileId="1">
<!-- Panasonic Viera G30, GT30, DT30, UT30 With avi (2011), xx50 (2012) With AVI Support -->

<!-- Transcode h264 videos with profile level > 4.1 to mpegts with ac3 audio -->
 -<Video targetACodec="ac3" targetContainer="mpegts" forceInheritance="true" targetVCodec="mpeg2video"> <Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="high" levelGreaterThan="4.1"/> <Matches container="*" vCodec="h264" profile="main" levelGreaterThan="4.1"/> </Video>
<!-- remux VORBIS/FLAC/LPCM in MKV/MP4 to AC3 -->
 -<Video targetACodec="ac3" targetContainer="mpegts" forceInheritance="true">
<!-- Some models support DTS natively, so the folowing line can be removed for those -->
 <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="dca"/> <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="flac"/> <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="vorbis"/> <Matches container="matroska" vCodec="h264" aCodec="truehd"/> <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" aCodec="lpcm"/>
<!-- <Matches container="mp4" vCodec="h264" aCodec="aac" /> -->
 <Matches container="3gp" vCodec="h264"/> </Video>

I took at detailed log of whats happening when I try to play the Muse MP4 video. The TV still reports that the MP4 is now listed as video not MP4, shouldnt it be listed as MP4?

Any Ideas, did i edit the right bit, its the first time ive ever tried to do this!

Thanks
Mark.

Hi, apologies for not keeping up with this thread.

I have installed the new 1.2.1 serviio and Im back to where I started with unnecessary transcoding taking place with the Panasonic Viera G/GT/DT/UT/VY (2011,2012) profile. Also now some videos are the wrong aspect ratio as well, I don't recall that happening last time.

I tried to copy and paste the profile that was posted above into the new 1.2.1 profiles.xml but serviio wouldn't run. I probably didn't paste it into the correct place, could someone give me some pointers of where exactly it should be pasted in.

Im going to have a mess around with a bit of the profile to see if I can get it back to how I remember it being before.

Thanks
Mark.

OK tried that profile that Illico posted above and it seems to work fine on the TV with the files I was testing with previously. Ill try some detailed logging for my self just to check.

Most if not all of my MKV files have subtitles but non are available to select on the screen. I made the MKV files with MakeMKV and selected English subs and forced subs when making the MKV files. What is the method to get these to be displayed when I want them to be?

I have also made a few DVD rips with MakeMKV with subs included. With Transcoding off the TV plays the MKV files perfectly, with subs available if I want them. With transcoding on I think the DVD MKVs are being transcoded and subs are not available.

How do I stop the DVDs from being transcoded?

Thanks again Illico for the previous profile.

I have managed to get MKV dvds working without being transcoded and the DVD SUBs work again. I also managed to get another video to stop being transcoded. Here is the profile in case its of any use to anyone else.

Now, how to get subs working on the bluray MKVs?

Almost forgot, this bluray MKV isn't playing any sound as its Dolby TrueHD but its not being transcoded as I think the video codec is different from my other dolby trueHD MKV films.

Today I managed to get Subs working for Bluray MKV rips today, but it only works with Transcoding OFF at the moment. I used Subtitle edit to extract the subs from the MKV which then saves them as a SRT file. At the moment this is subs for the entire film, which isn't something I use very often but Forced subs are essential for some films so that is next on the list to try out.

How can I adjust the Profile to make subs work when transcoding is set to ON?

It should work, post details about the files/srt file and also detailed log when playing the file.
