Hi All

This is my first post here, I've taken a good look round and can't see an answer to my questions (yet!)

So, here goes.....

I'm using a wired network.

1/ Is it possible to play from a NAS while Serviio Console on my Win 7 laptop is off ? It's a real pain having it all running (imho)

2/ Having spent a lot of time setting up fixed ip's for my BD, NAS, and Win7 laptop, so I can power it down and up again without everything losing touch with
itself, I now have a situation where the BD sees 2 instances of Serviio, (yellow) one of my Win 7 laptop and one of the NAS ( Diskstation). The Win 7 console
path is only to the NAS video folder, but, on the BD display the videos appear in the Win 7 Serviio folders, and they play from here. The NAS Serviio folders on
the BD say they have no playable file....does anyone have any ideas what is going on here?

3/ Is there a better profile for the sony BDP S370 ?

When I bought the Sony BD ( With DNLA plastered all over it ) 3 or so years ago, I was expecting a much more plug and play, user friendly
experience. Sadly it was not to be, its been really time consuming and frustrating. I know its hard to produce a definitive guide, with everyone having different
bits of kit, but, I've found it an epic piecing together all the information for setting ip addresses, mapping drives, setting shares and permissions for folders, in
Win 7 and on the Synology, and Win 7 user logons being mirrored on the NAS...and I've not even looked at editing device profiles! For something aimed at
consumers, its crazy!

Anyway....Lol, semi rant over! If anyone can help point me in the right direction, I would very much appreciate it.

1) yes. You only need the console to change settings.
2) you don't need fixed IPs as long as you can reserve the IPs your devices are assigned by your broadband router (this is usually possible). That simplifies things a good deal. You will need to delete the superfluous server entries using the menus of the BDP-S370. Usually it's easiest just to delete them all, then reboot the player and the current active one will re-appear.
3) no, ensure you're using the BDP-Sx70/SMP-N100 one which should be auto-selected.

If you still have no playable files, it's probably because you didn't express the path properly when you added the folder (maybe you used backslashes instead of Linux slashes), or that on your NAS the "serviio" user doesn't have read permissions on that shared folder. You can fix this in DSM. I get around this by sticking all my media within the /volume1/public share.

I'm using a Belkin N600 router so unfortunately there is no ip reservation...unless I've missed something? but Network is fine it all shows up.

The path needs to be in windows format, the Servio console kicks it out other wise..(Maybe I've misunderstood this instruction?)

All my content is located in shared files ( by user and Serviio) I've also located them in the public folder as well.

Still no joy...seen on the BD display with Serviio (pc) but not Serviio (Diskstation...no playable file)

I've even gone back to java 6 in-case that was a problem.

They are all shown in Mediabrowser and playable.

Just to update on this....

With DSM 5, Serviio console 1.4.1.12, and Serviio server 1.4.1.2-0026

I've read various comments about ensuring specific ports are open.
I can confirm, on my Synology Diskstation the Firewall does not need specific rules to be set on Lan ports 8895, 1900, 23423, or 137.

Serviio console on my Win 7 laptop would not let me enter linux pathways..ie:- /

I found a reference to adding and saving "-Dserviio.remoteHost= ( your server ip address)" in the Servioconsole.exe VMOTIONS file in the Servio Bin folder in Program files\serviio folder.

Having done this, I can now enter a Linux path in the shared folders add path location in Serviio console, and also SOLVES my problem of file source for the Diskstation Serviio folders showing in my BD tv display.....B****y hooray!

Unfortunately, by default this also adds "/volume1/homes/servio" to any path that I enter.
So currently I have had to add my movie folder to the Serviio folder, ( not what i want to do)

Do any of you fine chaps have any suggestions to change this default file path?

I've attached a couple of screen grabs to show the path change, the first one shows the file name entered before saving it..shown in grab 2...

Synology DSM hides the real filesystem path from you in the GUI. So let's say for example you have a top level shared folder in DSM called "Movies", you would need to enter it as "/volume1/Movies" into the Serviio Console. Since it's Linux remember that it's case sensitive too.

Now remember that you're using the Console to edit settings on your NAS's Serviio instance, and telling it where the files are on the NAS. Don't try to prefix it with an IP address - it's not needed. You will get this "/volume1/homes/serviio" substitution happening if you fail to prefix your path with a slash (which all Linux paths have since slash is the root folder). See this thread:

Remember to make sure that the serviio user has read access to that shared folder
Control Panel > File Sharing > Shared Folder > (select shared folder) > Edit > Permissions tab
