Synology ds212j media indexing issues

HI, so I have Serviio installed okay and can pick it up from my Sony EX320 downstairs (through HomePlugs) and PS3 upstairs (wired directly). I added /volume1/video to my shared folder with video files ticked and have given Serviio read/write privalleges. The problem I'm finding is that its not indexing all my folders and files. I have sub folders in there called A - E and F - G etc. and one called T, and only the T folder is showing up (on both tvs). Within that a whole bunch of the films are showing, but there are some missing.

I've tried removing all the apostraphies in film titles in case that was stopping the full indexing but doesn't seem to have helped. The log shows it is re scanning every 5 minutes but not finding anything to add. I chose Java 7 when i did the install.

Can anyone help?? i've spend hours on this and i'm not getting anywhere. :?

Try,

Library, under shared folders, tick the descriptive metadata box, scan for additional updates

I don't seem to have that under Shared Folders? Are you talking about the Web UI (that i'm using)?

Yes, it's the WEB ui.

Under, your installed apps. Serviio, Open serviio, along top,
Status, Library, Metadata etc

Click Library, there is shared folders & online sources

Under shared folders, you will have added a path to the video files.
then to the right of this is the box to tick for meta data.

oh right didn't realise I'd need those ticked. so now it has two green lights which is good. little bit worried that it says checking for updates 8, and there is a lot more missing than 8 files. Under that it says The Untouchables.avi which has been there for about 40 minutes now. Is it that slow to index? The file is one of the larger onse 1.23gb

Mine is slow to index. As I have a media player, I have now decided just to get online sources. Plus it won't play Vob files. You should be ok with avi files.
I use it to play to a samsung tv. If you want thumbs etc, I would create them first with thumbgen, but on my samsung, the thumbs are very small.

To speed it up, under Metadata, untick, Generate thumbnails for local videos

Thanks for your help this has worked, and I can see my files/folders now.

For some reason the transcoding seems to have a problem? The files that I couldn't play on the Bravia with the Diskstation Server, still don't play? Can you tell me what transcode settings you have? My file location says /volume1/@tmp is that right?

Its a KDL-22EX320 and the renderer profile is showing Sony Bravia TV (2011) which seems right to me.

My transcoded location is the same.

Sorry I can't be more help. But try rebooting the nas & refreshing.
You could try another profile, say 2010. But then reboot etc

Odd, but 2010 does seem to work.

Playback is stuttering, but that might be because I have the homeplug upstairs on a mutiplug adapter. Will take it off and see if that does the trick.

- no :(

Had a look on dLAN Cockpit and its stuttering on transfer speed of 107 Mbit/s. Is that too slow for transcoding?

I get confused with MBits etc.

Try moving the NAS & use a direct cable connection, if it's a large file, it might stutter.

Try converting a movie to MP4 just to see if it works.

the NAS is not powerful enough for full transcoding. So it depends what file and device you are using (e.g. remuxing should work on this device). I'm using home plug and it's doing a decent job for me, even for HD movies, althought wire would be even better.

I moved the tv upstairs and connected it without the homeplugs and still stuttering so I guess Serviio transcoding doesnt work on the Synology ds212j, which i'm gutted about. Should have bought the Samsung tv after all I guess.

I've attached Gspot screen prints of 2 offending avi's, and would appreciate it you could take a look and let me know if there's anything I can do so the NAS can cope with transcoding files like these. Otherwise I might as well remove Serviio.

Thanks anyway for all the help.

Ok, just a quick test. I have a 700MB avi file of 17 Again. I haven't used gspot to see what codecs it has.

I have played it via Homeplugs on my Samsung tv, via the nas inbuilt Media Player & Serviio, it seems to play ok.

One thought, have you checked that it has downloaded fully.

By that I mean, if you have downloaded with Diskstation, try, checking it by downlaoding it with say utorrent on your pc.

Copy downloaded movie to your normal location on your pc, run the torrent, it should check, if it hasn't fully downloaded, it will continue to download it fully.

I got the film before the diskstation, also it plays fine on my samsung tv upstairs (from NAS through PS3). I expect it plays ok for you because your tv supports the codecs in the film, and so no transcoding is going on and making it stutter like on my Sony?
