SRT subtitles with Philips 50PUS6504

I am trying to figure out how to make it work, and after fiddling with many different settings (to no avail) I figured posting here could help.

I am using Philips 50PUS6504 , files are on a Windows PC that's connected directly to the TV.
The issue is: files play well, but without subtitles (except if they are embedded in the file). Even when renaming the SRT file to be identical, Serviio won't show subs.

I thought of doing this -- https://forum.serviio.org/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=29682&p=132866&hilit=philips+srt#p132866 -- but could not figure out which files should I change...?

I am using the Generic DLNA profile all others do not allow playing 4K files.

Thanks in advance!

Re: SRT subtitles with Philips 50PUS6504

I pulled up the users manual for your TV, and it does list support for SRT files. It does note that the file must be formatted with one of these Character encodings : UTF-8, Central Europe and Eastern Europe Windows-1250), Cyrillic (Windows-1251), Greek (Windows-1253), Turkish (Windows-1254), Western Europe (Windows-1252)

You can use a text editor such as Notepad++ to ensure the text encoding is correct. Also, I'm moving this to a more appropriate place in the forum. This has nothing to do with third party tools.

Re: SRT subtitles with Philips 50PUS6504

Thanks -- and I am not sure why my post ended up in the wrong place, must've been my mistake.

I verified the SRT file is UTF-8 , and it's still not working.

To make sure I got the settings correctly:
-- Generic DLNA profile
-- Enable subtitles turned on
-- Subtitles character encoding turned on
-- all other checkboxes not ticked on

Is there something else I might be missing?

No, it should be working. I know SRT files work on mine. Doesn’t appear to be a Serviio issue. I will add that I am not impressed with any TV’s DLNA functionality. I quit using the TV as a player years ago, instead using a Blu Ray player, Roku, or Nvidia Shield (it’s my favorite).
